    Mission Details:

The draw of the unknown... (Plot mission - Closed) Latest?cb=20130827154000

Most explorers of the area would have been traveling for days before the mornings light highlighted the rocky shores before them., marking that they had finally arrived at the Warriors pit. It's name hinting to its  history as an ancient battle ground that encompassed a whole region of mountainous and rocky out jutting earthen spires and ravines, its flat land marred by horrendous environmental damage no doubt caused by Shinobi of the past. Most in the world had been taught that the Scorched lands were the most desolate place in the world, but this region utterly destroyed any and all notion of that once seen. It was bleak and a testament to the destructive nature behind human motivation. Nothing could ever compare to the feeling of dread and unease that settled over travelers as they crossed over and into the rocky hill line and deeper into the region, the first glimpses of the Bloodstained mire forever registering into their minds.

The marshland section of the region held uniquely colored flora and beasts meandered about it aimlessly, their forms occasionally visible through the dense foliage and plant life that was growing out of the bog before them. The clouds high above were numerous and caused limited light to filter down, giving the swamp an almost permanent sundown like atmosphere. In the center of the bog laid a great tree with crimson glowing baubles, that was clearly visible from the hill that had crossed over to enter into the area. As travelers encroached further into the area they would notice that the ground became sanguine in nature and the streams even ran the color of blood. A clear sign of the high iron content in the soil poisoning the water table, causing it to run red.

Nemotoashi and Alvah would have crossed into the region under cover of night, their natural inclinations aiding them in traversing the wounded terrain of the so heavily chaotic feeling area. The sheer supernatural unease that permeated the bog lands almost felt like home to Alvah, something about this place called to him and made his most inner self hunger for its discovery. He had to find out what was making these crystals and see the area for himself. He had heard stories his entire life of the atrocities that had happened here yet it didn't faze him, if anything it only made him more curious, and desperate to see it for himself, to experience the so called Bloodstained mire. The glow coming off the grand tree in the distance cascaded a crimson lighting throughout the region making for a truly beautiful and frightening site to the Ketsueki male. It felt like home, not the estate he grew up in, but where he was meant to be. Looking over to Nemo, he would acknowledge the impressive young man, "Something about this place just... speaks to you doesn't it? It is suffused with death and life and force of will! I hope this ends up being just as exciting as it feels. Doesn't the bog just seem to call out to you?...", Alvah discovered a winding path that led into the ravine proper and would begin to descend it assuming that Nemo would follow behind him.

As their steps had taken them further and further into the dead land. Nemo's footsteps had grown softer. His mood was genuinely improved. A place defiled by the shinobi of the past. A place that was blasted to ruin, and now struggled to return. This place was what he saw when he dreamed. His desires pulled him toward this place, or what it represented. The beauty of this place, teetering on the edge of oblivion, but desperately clinging to the semblances of life. These vile plants and blood red waters.

'Careful, our shield is slipping, we may be seen.'

He looked down, and saw there, a single flower growing stubbornly out of the mud, a sunflower. Hardy things. He leaned down toward it as Alvah spoke, "The land here cries out in pain, dying in the labor of birth." He touched the flower, placing a spore upon it. He straightened, and followed Alvah, "The birth of new land. A land born anew from the annihilation of its parent. A land that chokes the last life from what came before." He gestured towards the swamps, "Beneath there is vegetation from the land before, and likely animals as well. They died to form this place. And the process was helped along. Did the ones who rendered such help know the work they were performing?" He blinked, had he been saying that out loud. Was this place having such an effect on him. "Yes I hear it, Alvah"

As they left the sunflower behind, it was choked by tendrils, as the spore grew to consume it.

Through the twisting path that led down into the ravine he listened to the words that Nemo had spoken, nothing was more true or resonated as much with Alvah as the sentiment expressed therein. This world was in need of a churning moment and the mire encapsulated the true embodiment of that sentiment. He was slowly learning that Nemo was more like him then he had thought, and that poised an interesting question to Alvah; What if he was the scion that allowed him to start putting his plans in motion? He knew he needed to gather talented and like minded individuals to lead this world into a new order comprised of the right ideals, so what if Nemo was the first member to join him in his crusade? That thought was intriguing to him, and only grew more solidified when he agreed with Alvah that this place was calling to their inner most selves.

Once they reached the basin, Alvah spoke with awe as the mire laid before him, the water at his feet and the bog land didn't just look like blood, it was infused into the very soil and had become one with the water that flowed through this marshland, "Nemo... This place is rich with life blood. It is permeated through to its very core.... I must reach that tree!", the winding path before them had spots of semi dry land mixed into the mud filled bog land. Their trek only poised to get harder from here on in.

As he began to venture down the only traversable path between the rotting corpses of age old mammals preserved by the mires environment, and twisted cracked trees, their flora vibrant colors of purple, red, and sickly green, growing out from the trunks of the malformed trees that littered the area, Alvah saw something moving further down the path that could only be described as a giant ape like creature with six arms and a horse like head. It was feasting on something down the bend from their position, ripping and pulling at its corpse, flicking the debris every which way. As they neared it, its spine was spiky and protruded out from its back, matted blood caked fur seemed to cover scaly flesh underneath.

"Nemo... What the hell is that!", for the first time in Alvah's life, he might actually be terrified of something.

Nemo stared at Alvah's back as they walked.

THE SHIELD SLIPPED. And it didn't care. THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE. The evidence is before our eyes. KILL IT. I doubt we can. MAIM IT. And die in the undertaking? He is speaking, focus.

The tree? Nemo looked impassively at the great and vile thing, it would twist the stomach of any. Any who could not see. But this. Nemo's empty eyes looked at Alvah for a moment, then passed on. This one could see. They walked on, Nemo in silence as he contemplated, and his want scratched at him.

They beheld it then. This child of the dead realm, feasting. Nemo blinked, and glanced at Alvah, the mask slipping from the eyes now.
"That? That is an egg, my companion." He stretched his hand towards it. And a cloud of white spores like dandelions erupted from him, surrounding him in a halo of white haze. They rushed on, filling the area around them (nearly 60 meters) with their pale presence. The six armed thing looked up in startled surprise as the spores reached it, and moved into an attack stance, spotting them. It began to charge, But then stopped, and howled, tearing at its chest in panic. It convulsed, and its body shook and trembled, then distended. It gave a final scream as pale purple and black tendrils of wood erupted from it, now stained red. "An egg. And when the shell is broken, new life is revealed. But my companion" And now Nemo looked to meet Alvah's eyes, the void seeking the red, "For the new to grow and hatch, the egg must pay the price." Now the Sporewood tree had grown to its full bloom. The wood holding the beast up as though crucified. The spores flowering and flowing from the mutilated corpse, tinged red now, and that red haze joined the white. Mingling into a crimson that surrounded them. Nemo's gaze was unwavering, "We all seek a shell to break, don't we? A shell to suffer for our birth?"

THE MASK IS BROKEN AND FALLEN. WE ARE REVEALED AND NOW WE WILL DIE. No, we shall not.

Alvah watched on in utter awe as Nemotoashi seemed completely unfazed by the creature in front of them, in fact, it almost seemed like Nemo was saying that he was the real monster to be feared and this creature was nothing but trash in his way.

What was that about an egg?

And just as Alvah thought it, he saw the terrifying power behind Nemo's confidence as spores came to life all around them seemingly controlled by his ally next to him. Within mere moments the creature charged them and then stopped suddenly, clawing at its own body with a maddening fury as wooden tendrils burst forth from its body rising to form a grotesque pillar like tree structure that seemingly crucified the foe that had lay before them. Alvah pivoted his head to meet the gaze of Nemo and hardened himself, realizing that the two of them were equally capable now of doing whatever it took to survive this place, "
You are truly impressive Nemo. You are also correct... This world is in desperate need of change and I slowly am starting to feel like we may be the only two that are uniquely capable of causing said change.... The next one is mine though, I can't let you have all that fun can I?", as he spoke the last word he let his eyes become fully luminescent with their crimson glow as his pupils vanished, his fangs unretracting to reveal his sharp canids, and lastly his finger nails expanded into sharp inch long claws. If Nemo had revealed what he was to Alvah, he would do the same in kind to show that he was not a threat to him.

Venturing down the path with renewed resolved Alvah began rushing through the winding paths, passing by several unique small variants of the giant tree they had seen when looking down into the valley. These smaller ones carried no crystals but also appeared to be.... possibly root extensions? It mattered not to Alvah as he was solely focused on reaching their destination to discover why every moment he spent here, his heart pounded faster and faster sending him into a spiraling adrenaline fueled high.

After several bends they had come to a small clearing that had a heaping mound of twisted and gnarled carcasses composing it. At the top of the pile, a tiger like creature with three scorpion like tails and small bat like wings slept, snoring like a recently fed glutton. As they approached however, it would rise and stare directly at them, roaring with a blood curdling cry of anger as its mouth separated into three sections, rows of razor sharp fangs on each mandible and two barbed tongues flicking saliva everywhere, a truly fearsome foe indeed!

It mattered not to Alvah however as he steeled himself, preparing to show Nemo that he wasn't the only thing to be feared here. Blood burst forth from several pores of his body and coalesced around him in a burst of sanguine glory, as it formed into separate constructs, a pair of fully functional blood wings on his back that sprouted out of his shoulder blades as well as from the airborne droplets that gushed from him, and an array of senbons constructed from his own blood that surrounded him in a front facing circle, for he had activated phoenix mode and piercing rain together.

    "
I pity you creature... Its not your fault that you crossed my path... But it is your fault that you lay between me and my desires. Be gone!", and with a thrust of his right arm forward he widened his fingers and on his right hand and launched all of the senbons and feathers of his freshly constructed wings straight through the open mouth of the creature, and then out multiple spots from inside of it, separating it into several unequal chunks in a gruesome display of wrath. A glorious spray of blood is all that remained as it cascaded down upon the area in the form of a light rainfall. The "Bone" structure of the wings shed towards the ground as it ended, with some of Alvah's frame becoming covered in the rainfall. Looking down at a spot of blood that had gathered on his hand he licked up the lifeblood with pleasure.

Alvah hadn't had this much fun in a while.....

Nemo smiled, though there was no mirth in it. No, I can't take all the fun, and this is fun, isn't it? It appeared as if he wasn't the only monster here. Alvah's form reflected his intent, barred like a knife.

MANY BREEDS OF MONSTER. NOT ALL LIKE US.

Nemo had to run to keep up with Alvah. And as they passed the smaller trees and formations, Nemo thought he recognized the systems of construction. It was... like a single thing. The egg was the land, but was there only one true child? The tree? He must see it as well, this tree. He felt himself growing more wanting as the moments went on. He felt the bloodlust seeping off of Alvah like a river of fire. Hot and burning with a barely contained lust. And it passed him by, the answering lake of ice, the other half perhaps, or the mortal enemy.

NOT FIRE AND ICE, HATE AND APATHY.

Hate? How could Nemo understand something so true and present? So separate from himself? Alvah spoke of change. For its own sake?

Yes, there are more things Nemo needed to know. The want burned as bright as ever, but alongside it flickered curiosity, and a new want. If Ice could understand Fire. Could Fire thus understand Ice?

His reverie in the chaos was interrupted by Alvah, whose bloodlust manifested. And Nemo saw then an angel. Risen on wings of blood in the wound of this land. Nemo grinned. A baring of the teeth, unlike the smiles that he had cultivated for so long. He watched the butchery, and felt the fire of Alvah reaching to him. A being with purpose, a monster guided toward something. An equal in power, maybe a superior. And for the first time in Nemo's remembered life, he felt kinship with another being. Yet the grim smile did not last, and faded as quickly as it appeared.

WE ARE THE ONLY ONE OF US. AND WE ARE ALONE

He stepped forward, and held his hand aloft in the brief blood rain. And again his eyes met Alvah's, Nemo held his crimson stained hand towards him "As did this pitiful creature, thousands, no, millions more stand between your desire and you. Will you do the same to them?" His hand swung towards the sky, and his hand clenched and clawed, as though he were scratching at the inside of a shell, or the walls of a prison, "To achieve this...change. To break the shell. To realize birth... What price must be paid, Alvah?"

Nemo's eyes were wide, staring at Alvah. The whispering want that plagued him now written on his face as he waited, his entire being on edge. The anwer... it meant something to Nemo... a second want, that was...

ANSWER US, BRINGER OF THE CRIMSON RAIN. ANGEL OF BLOOD. WHAT ARE YOU?!?

Post by Alvah Sun May 17, 2020 12:53 pm

Alvah breathed heavily for a moment, the intoxication of fully letting loose and decimating his foe, overwhelming and alarming to someone so used to being reserved in general mannerisms. His mask was completely removed and he didn't know if he ever wanted it back at this point. The rush of adrenaline felt so good, and he didn't know if he logically could go back to controlling his inner whims. Despite there not being another soul around other then Nemo, he was not a Ketsueki and so to Alvah... This was just as public of a display as if he had done it in Gekkousato's town square.

Listening to and observing his newfound ally, he took in his words with the most serious of intentions. He did fervently believe that this world was beyond saving, and it needed to be burned down to its core, so like the mythical phoenix, it would rise from the ashes and form new and beautiful life. It was this metamorphosis that Alvah wanted most. Change was and will always be the whims of the winds of chaos, but Alvah had sought to alter their direction for his own personal goal of nihilistic abandon.

"As did this pitiful creature, thousands, no, millions more stand between your desire and you. Will you do the same to them?.... To achieve this...change. To break the shell. To realize birth... What price must be paid, Alvah?"

This world was disdainful, and full of those who did not deserve the very air they breathed. People in power could do what they wanted and per the governing justice of the world.. they would be too important to be punished. It was this realization that had put Alvah on his path of villainy, he was the same as them being born into power, but his ambition didn't stop within his scope of control like them. No, it would encompass everything in the land if only he kept pushing forward.

"Nemo... The price is everything that wont conform. All that stand in my path to realizing my dream of burning this world down to nothing but scattered ashes, so that it can rise to new heights with the ever fervent growth present after a forest fire.", pausing for effect he would continue with a new look of determination upon his visage, "I will not be satiated with half efforts Nemo. By setting down this path I will see to it that my dream is accomplished, even I have to die to see it fully to fruition.", and without waiting for Nemo's response as to let him ponder the weight of Alvah's views, he continued deeper into the mire. The tree growing ever closer in the distance.

PASSION AND DESIRE. WE MUST HAVE IT!. We cannot, we are not meant to.

But perhaps. Nemo followed Alvah in silence. A step behind him. Perhaps. The symbiant. Perhaps they were different species, perhaps Nemo and Alvah were not the same. But they both desired something similar. They both longed to see the shell consumed. Alvah wanted the shell to break, and free a new world, a phoenix born from the death of all that stood in opposition. But that was never Nemo's desire.

As they walked, Nemo spoke, his voice as cold as ever, "I speak of the shell. Yet I have never sought its breaking. Only desired it. For what can be brought from within a shell that is broken without a purpose? I sought to hide my want, the want of the breaking. To conceal it from the eyes of those who would destroy me for it. And I do not desire to stand alone in the ash, with nothing before me but darkness."

Nemo placed a hand on Alvah's shoulder, turning him around, to look him in the eyes, "THAT, is what you place before me now. A desire. A true want. A want that mirrors my own want in function if not in goal. To break the shell for a purpose. So I tell you this, Angel of Blood. I shall undertake the breaking alongside you. And bath the world in an ocean of blood, that you may craft it anew in your desired image. I will bring the world to the brink of the void alongside you." He stepped back, and a wry expression appeared, "Eventually of course. We are genin. And the spreading of a wildfire is easier suppressed than the malicious spread of a tumor."

FIRE AND ICE TOGETHER. THE WORLD BREAKS.

Alvah need only accept the weapon offered him now, and Nemo would walk beside Alvah wherever he led. To the tree, and beyond. .

Post by Alvah Sun May 17, 2020 6:03 pm

As they continued down the winding path before them several smaller beasts ran from them, most probably having known what direction that had come from, and what was in that direction that clearly is no longer present, blood spattering their forms as it were anyhow. And soon the tree was within reach, their pacing came to halt, and not because they had reached their destination but because Alvah realized what Nemo was really saying underneath all of the views and guttural thoughts

He was announcing his loyalty to him...

Speaking to his newfound comrade in arms he laced each word with undeniable charisma, fanning his hands outwards to the tree as if it was one of his subjects, "With this alliance, the world given time will know true fear and eventually... Glory as it is reborn into something truly worth seeing! Nemotoashi Houga, I Alvah Ketsueki Lord of the Long Night and head of the Ketsueki clan, welcome you with open arms into my....  Dark Alliance."

The tree before them was truly massive and seemed to have several streams of red water like fluid gushed from its trunk, as it seemed to be the source of the bog itself if one so came to that conclusion. The branches lofted up above carried several large pomegranate like fruit that glowed with a supernatural beauty to them. However, now that they were up close to it Alvah knew the crystals were not contained inside the fruit itself as they seemed to all be filled with some sort of pulsating liquid.

His attention turned downwards to a large gate sized opening at the base of the trunk that contained some sort of gem formation around the body of a human like creature. The hollow of the tree was a deep oaken brown, and covered with yellow glowing moss like structures. The gem formation had a dull glow to it that pulsated every now and again. The figure trapped partially in the gemstone formation was in some sort of praying position like a Buddhist monk, and looked long exsanguinated.

    "...Dark Alliance"

Nemo was taken aback. When Alvah had said Nemo's name, it felt like, for the first time, someone had been speaking directly to him. Not speaking to the mask, to the facade, to the Nemo that was not Nemo. He tilted his head.

IT TRICKS US. DENY IT, CAST IT ASIDE. MAKE IT INTO A TREE OF GORE. IT DOESN'T KNOW WHAT WE ARE. IT LIES.

Wrong. He knows what we are now. More than any before. We have to know why. We will honor what we said. We will help him.

Nemo acquiesced, non verbally, but his expression left no doubt to the mutual acceptance of the Alliance. He turned his attention to the tree. And walked towards it.

The heart of the bog was before him. His studies of the natural world had left that in little doubt. It seemed as though it was a massive parasite. An infestation that had drained the land. The source of the wound. A weapon? Or an infection left untended until it consumed this place? What was its origin?

AN IDOL TO THE TRUTH THAT WE ARE.

Yes. He looked over to Alvah. The truth that we all are.

As they stood before the great tree, Nemo spoke again, "Words are useless without structure. And intent useless without a plan. So tell me Alvah, what do you plan? What is the first blow that shall be struck against the walls of this shell?" He walked towards the crystal formation, "Or is this the first step of it? Do you plan to discover the purpose of these beautiful gems? And turn that purpose to ours?"

PRATTLE. IT MEANS NOTHING WITHOUT ACTION.

That's what we just said. Be quiet.

Post by Alvah Mon May 18, 2020 1:52 am

His companion had such interesting questions for him, what would be the start of their new world order? Pondering it for a brief moment as it began to enter into the wooden alcove, "I think... The first step will be growing our power base. You are my first and will always be the most dear member of this growing alliance of whim, but I think we need more equally powerful individuals that will assist us in our end goals... Other people abandoned by society or forged in the darkness of this impure world. But after that? The death of a Kage should suffice. Something truly destabilizing....".

Approaching what he first thought was an an exsanguinated monk like man sitting in a cross legged stance, he realized it was a statue of unknown origin. Blood crystal gems and glowing orange mushrooms growing from the statue and covering the inside of the hollowed out tree section they stood in, pulsated with what seemed like raw power. Just being near it caused the sensation of dread and bloodlust to swell to the surface for Alvah.

    It was intoxicating....

Touching his right hand against the crystals he felt something calling to him deep inside his blood, urging him to maintain contact with them. Placing his other hand on the crystal structure as well, he flared some of his chakra suffused blood out from his hands and onto the area he caressed, absorbing the feelings that it gave him intently. The dark caress fueling his desires further. Retreating the chakra infused blood back into himself, he turned to Nemo and spoke again, "These... Gems are beautiful I don't want to give them up...".

Prying several of the gems loose, he cradled them in his hand longingly and looked into their core with a loving stare. They were the color of blood and seemed to be like a pure manifestation of the sanguine gift that flowed through mankind. The precious resource that was so important to Ketsueki's was basically embodied in the crystals that rested in his palm.

Grow the power base? More monsters? A nest of vipers.

HE IS MAD. TO FACE A KAGE IS BEYOND US. At the moment yes, be quiet.

Nemo knelt, staring into the eyes of the figure trapped in the blood-like crystals. He contemplated it, quietly. Were other people abandoned by society? Were those people worth seeking out? Perhaps as fodder, but Nemo had managed to live with ease in society. Someone who was unable to hide themselves in the mire of civilization didn't seem worth the time it would take to recruit them. Nemo doubted there were worse monsters than him that dwelled undetected in the world, though it was a possibility.

WE HID, OTHERS MUST HAVE. Not incorrect for once.

He snapped off a single gem, staring into its depths. And peace settled on him. This vile thing, a product of the massacre of the land. This was the same as the tree he had used to kill the six-armed ape. It was a drop of blood, frozen in time. At least, to him, it was perfect. "Those who will be worth finding, will not be easy to find. A monster that stands out is a monster that can be crushed with ease. If a creature attracts the attention of the mass. The mass will crush it. The monster survives with a mask, and the stronger the monster, the more deceptive the mask."

SOME TOO STRONG, TOO MONSTROUS TO ALLY WITH

The statue seemed as a representation of the events that happened here. A peaceful thing, that had been split and broken, to make way for the tree, the child of the land. To erupt from its mother, and consume her, feeding its birth with her death. The land was the statue, and the gems were the tree, and the fungus was the animals they had seen.

YOU ARE A FUNGUS. Don't be childish. It makes me ashamed to be you.

He tossed the crystal in his hand, "They are a representation of this place. They hold the spirit of what we have discussed in them. They are a microcosm of our goal."

THE WANT IS NEAR. No it isn't, it still lies far in the future.

Nemo stood, "I see no further purpose in remaining here. I would stay and marvel at it, but a greater sight awaits. Instead of the vision of the future here. We must seek it in truth. Carry the image of this land with us. And project it onto the world."

Nemo was right. If they were not able to hide they probably were not worth their time, as only the careless expose them self to the world so brazenly. Alvah had realized Nemo was right about a lot of things when it came to this new foundation, he made the perfect advisor for helping decide their course as they ventured down the unforeseen road ahead of them. It would be an arduous journey and would no doubt hold some losses for their future, but if they succeeded... the end result would be glorious!

As he listened on to the micro lecture that Nemo led, Alvah realized what their next target would be, someone strong but hidden to the world, someone that only the criminal underbelly of the world may know of. He knew exactly who they would go and see next on this arduous journey of theirs. Responding in kind to Nemo, "We shall do all that and more Nemo! This is only the beginning of our journey.. We shall find some more suitable allies next to grow our selves steadily. Lets be off and finish this endeavor.", wordlessly from there, Alvah would make sure he grabbed a few extra of the crystals and then leave the mire with Nemo in tow.

A lot to ponder on this day, the duo would leave the mire behind them in silence. Words were not needed anymore, as an agreement had been made. They would scour the lands for suitable candidates in the days to come. They would not be deterred by society any longer then needed at this point.

     The cataclysm was coming....
