    Mission Info:

Wrath of the Unknown... (Group plot mission) Ruined10

As the group would come upon this area of the barrens, they would be absorbed into the beautiful locale of a long forgotten temple, its buildings and infrastructure marred from some sort of large scale battle or so it seemed. It had lush grass and bamboo trees that dotted its landscape, quite unlike the rest of the barrens. Perfect mason work stone steps led up to a decrepit guard gate, almost caving in on its left side, being held up by a single metal beam in the framing. The stone walls to the temple had crumpled or fallen into disrepair in several areas. the first section one would enter into was an open courtyard held just within the crumpled gate, that held a recessed fountain area with a tower like structure in its center and seating around it. The tower fountain was roughly twelve feet tall and three feet in diameter, another set of stairs led up into another courtyard higher up, that would contain the final set of stairs leading to the upper temple grounds.. Several of the buildings that could be viewed from this level were in relative shambles as they had succumbed to the elements.

Alvah and his companions had been traveling for the last few days on this potentially pointless journey. His companions were one Nemo and Mirai, the second and third members of their growing coterie. They had been told about the legend of the Executioner and the mighty weapon he possessed, which wasn't the main interest of Alvah, for going here. He instead wanted to see the truth and power of the legendary Executioner for himself, and would stop at nothing to discover what was the secret behind the legend's destructive force. He had to know what made that man so demonic in power and history, he had to know why that mans journey ended so that he wouldn't be doomed to repeat it himself, and so here they were at the precipice of the first manmade structure they had come across out here in the barrens.

Nemo stood behind Alvah, his hands thrust into his pockets. Casual on the surface. But he was filled with a sense of bliss as he beheld the ruins. He inhaled deeply. The smell of the area filling his nose. Dust. Dirt. Windstorms would have whipped through recently. Filling the air with clouds of dust. But now it was gentle. And quiet. But still the smell of dust lingered. A reminder that something once lived here. Before being reduced to nothing. This was not the principal he thought of. This was not life for death. This was death. Or perhaps it was simply slow birth, and he could not yet see the life that would spring forth. Then they arrived at the temple. Here was the life. The grass and bamboo that signified a slow return. He tilted his head with a small smirk. This ideal wasn't his. He sought death, life from that death was a new idea. It was the idea behind the Crucible.

DEATH GIVES LIFE. THE GRASS DEVOURS.

While the other two would likely be distracted by the heights of the temple. Nemo looked at the grass around. And walked over, by the well was even lusher grass. He knelt, and his hand dug into it, "This place was attacked I believe. Perhaps a site that could prove the existence of this... executioner. I am not familiar with this myth, tell me of it." He was lying, he wanted them to break the silence, and begin talking. He pulled from the deepest of the grass the object he was seeking. He stood, staring down at the human skull in his hand, caked with dirt.

THE GRASS DEVOURS. The grass fed on their corpse, and grew faster and greener. Death... fuels life.

Mirai walked with Nemo and Alvah gracefully, one heel lightly landing in front of the other. For this mission, she had chosen an outfit quite a bit more form fitting than the black and white dress the two had met her in the night before. This time it was a black long sleeve crop top along with black pants that cut half way down the calves. Her ankles and wrists were wrapped in bandages tightly for the sake of stability. She made her way step by step up the staircase to the main grounds of the ruins. Her fingers trailed softly over the stone at the entrance and along the deep gashes into the ground. Gashes deep enough that they were bleeding the story of a time long past. She would keep walking, looking. She vaguely heard the ramblings of Nemo and rose her voice to speak.

"The executioners blade is apparently a large sword. It is rumored to have cut down endless enemies. There are whispers that it feeds on blood itself you know. One knows when they find the blade because it is said to invoke the collected fear of all of those it has killed before into those it graces with it's presence. Those are the stories anyway. This is definitely a high profile item."

Mirai continued her aimed stroll. There was clear evidence of this once upon a time being a war zone. There was blood stained into the surfaces of various buildings and the stone clad walkways below. This place had seen more than just blood shed. This wasn't a simple ruins. These were the pinnacle of a disaster. The weapon must surely carry the force of that disaster with it. As she felt the coarse stone, it told her the stories of struggle and weakness; two stories that clearly had ended in agony, lest the ruins would not lay here. As she felt, observed, she could almost see it clearly. This was a prize she wished to have. Something like this would be interesting to hold if nothing else. This was a story that needn't be told again. It was a story that was engraved in the very ruins themselves.

Soaking in the utter destruction of the temple, he took in all before him, the wanton destruction and the age-old blood stains that painted a gloriously beautiful painting, igniting the tapestry of darkness that had consumed this place long ago. He would begin to venture up the stone steps as he took careful note of the nature of how this gate was toppled. The doors of the gate were caved in as if a large beast had just crashed through it, splinters dotting the nearby landscape.

As Neemo talked, Alvah would respond in kind, “
As Mirai had said, the Executioner is both the man and the blade he carried. He was a bloodstained demon of the night, bringing forth a great cacophony of destruction wherever he traveled. He is extremely intriguing to me as a legend. It was said that his blade devoured the very blood of his enemies. That is a power I am interested in.”, looking around he would walk towards the fountain’s basin and peer deeply into its sanguine waters.

Looking back to his group he would speak softly and maliciously, “
Mirai… What do you make of this situation?”, he was testing her intuition. He had told her she needed to prove her worth, and from Neemo’s insistence of fairness, and his own curiosity, he would give her this one mission of theirs to her as a chance to be seen differently by him. Channeling Katon into his left hand he dipped it into the water and began converting it to his own crimson supply. When he was finished he made it flow, as if only to cause the fountain to run again, a beautiful yet terrifying sight to behold.

AAAHHHHHHH OUR FAVORITE STORY. We say that often. But yes. The story of the executioner, there is much we can learn from that beast. That creature of chaos. The antithesis of the Crucible. He was the fire that sought obliteration, of even himself. HE WAS WHAT WE WERE BEFORE. What we were before our thoughts settled. Before we became us. THIS ILLUSION FADES. It is a fragile one. WE ARE TOO ALIKE IN THOUGHT AND DESIRE. Perhaps we are too alike in identity. Even now I feel what was ours becoming... mine. DO NOT DO THAT, WE ARE WE, WE ARE NOT I. I know. NEMO. We need a name for both of us. Not just a facsimile of two real creatures. We must truly become we. One of us is Nemo, who is the other? OUR NAMES HIDE IN PLAIN SIGHT.

Nemo looked up from the skull at Mirai, "More than just a high profile item. Now that we stand out here in the Barrens, we must speak honestly. The blade itself is a symbol, a symbol of the past. A symbol of a mistake." He looked around, the almost holy aura of the ruins singing to him. Telling of the events that happened here.

The destroyed gate points to a creature breaking in. He was looking for something. He was consumed by hatred and rage. He was blinded by desire. As we may have become, had our course not changed. We will learn from this.

Nemo walked up and touched the gate, feeling the ragged and torn metal. He breathed in, the dead air filling his lungs. As Alvah placed his hand into the water fountain, Nemo tilted his head.

WHAT DOES SHE MAKE OF IT? Does Mirai see the mistake we see? Does Alvah? Do they see the Executioner as warning, or as a guiding light? A BEAST DIRECTED BY ONLY HIS MAD RAGE. A beast who followed his base desires. We told this to Alvah once. The Executioner was a raging wildfire, so he was snuffed out, even as strong as he was. We cannot be a fire, we must be unnoticed until our malignancy has spread too far, and cannot be rooted free.

Nemo pulled open an inner door, revealing inside it a small place of worship. The pews long since rotted away, the light streaming through the windows tainted red by the old stained glass. The altar ahead, the sight made Nemo smile. It was rent in two pieces, someone had been in the way. A skeleton lay, cleaved down the middle from shoulder to hip. The ribs shattered and laying around. The skull nowhere in sight. Nemo walked towards it, and placed the skull in his hand on its destroyed neck, "Did he come here to kill you? Or were you just his last, hapless victim, why did he carry your head to the well? What I wouldn't give to know what you felt, to know what you knew at that last moment. Perhaps this blade would not be out of place in my hand. If it would show me your fate, and the others who fell to it."

THIS THING IS LIKE US, RENT IN TWO. We are whole, two pieces that form a complete existance. WE ARE NOT WHOLE, WE HAVE NO NAME.

Our name is here. We need but find it. Nemo looked back at his two companions, watching them with intensity.

Avarice. The first word to ring in her mind as she continued going about the ruins. She could feel the desperation in the slashes of the blade. The pleading in the stains of blood. Mirai could barely even hear the outside world. Truth be told, she was marveling. Was it possible that an item alone had done all this? No. This was the result of an equally terrifying individual and truth be told, the thought shook her to her core. Never had she felt fear toward a figure she couldn't even grasp with the tendrils of her own imagination. She could feel the blood pulsing through her veins the more she searched about. It was in this sense of unknowing, this sense of suffocation, this sense of disparity, that she found her muse.

Hopelessness. The second word to ring through as she continued to examine what looked to be the marks of nails clawing down on any sorts of wood within the remaining half-frames of buildings. This place was a graveyard of the hopes and dreams of the corpses laying in it. This was the epitome of what happens when power is a weight far too much for one being to bare.

She finally made her way back over to the two. She had noticed the fountain, but with the rest of the blood here being dried and nearly faded, she had no doubt that the running water was an attempt to get a rise out of her and it made her shoot Alvah a rather snooty, 'Is that your best shot?', look. She would then take a step forward. "I don't think it's a symbol of a mistake. It's a reminder that with power comes chaos. The chaos of not knowing how to wield it. The chaos of losing control of it. The madness that can ensue in it's wake. I agree with you, it shouldn't be taken lightly, but the key is not to fear the past, but to move on and learn from it."

He flitted through the former hellscape in front of them as if he was in deep thought. Every cut, scrape, and wanton blow that was left upon the area drew his ire. He deeply desired to know the full intent behind the Man who did this. How was such a wild dog feared? Was purely because of his power? He lacked any known ideals so that is what Alvah had to take solace in for why he failed.

As always Neemo hit the nail on the head, and surprisingly Mirai was also on the right track of mind as far as what they should be thinking and taking from this experience, "
I am surprised Mirai, I actually value and agree with your view. Maybe you have merit yet. Neemo... What does this place tell you? Try reaching out to it, feeling it as we did the mire. What does its very core scream to you.", his words held kindness fro but a brief moment towards Mirai before returning to his general tone of disdain for all living things.

He would begin to walk up the last stone stair case, ascending it to the precipice of this place as to view it whole. The main cathedral of the temple now in view as he ascended and with every step became closer to the realization that he sought. In the last resting place of whatever had been here, he would find an answer hopefully to the void that now stared back at him. He would discover what it is that they were still lacking to keep going forward in their plans. He would discover the answer to how to forge the crucible they would reform the world with. He just could feel it.

SHE SEES A PART OF THE TRUTH. But not enough. WE MUST NOT STAND ALONE ANYMORE, THAT WAS OUR BELIEF. Yes, the crucible must be built by the hands of many.

"His mistake, Mirai. was the chaos. He lost control of his madness. It wasn't a mistake to be mad, or insane. The mistake was losing control, and being noticed." He gestured to the slashes in the walls, the blood, the chaos and death that was painted and scarred into the bones of the temple. "This was why he died. This was a display of brutality. This made his name remembered, this and other events like this one. But what if he had worked in silence? What if he had struck down only the one he sought. What if he did not exist in legend as the Executioner, but as a King? What if he had maintained control. How much more would he have been able to do? Bombastic displays of power are not conducive to long term goals. At least in my view."

ASCEND, ASCEND AND SEE. LET OUR THOUGHTS BE FREE OF THESE WEBS AND SHACKLES.

Nemo stood at the top of the staircase, looking down at the whole of the temple with Alvah and possibly Mirai. He breathed in, what did he see? What was this place telling him? Alvah wanted to know, perhaps for himself, perhaps for Nemo. Perhaps Alvah could not hear anything and was reaching to Nemo, likely not. Alvah had to feel it.

"This, this is an omen. One of thousands. The signs that the end nears. The signs that tell the world that they must change, lest the inevitable falls upon them. The Executioner was a sign of us. Or perhaps those after us. He was a force that desired what we desire. He sought that change, and set his blade to the task. There are many such others, many Omens of the coming end. This place is an extension of the Omen that was the Executioner, this place is one of his signs. No matter if he lost, or made mistakes, his desire was my own, since the day I could desire anything. I desired to bring all to nothing."

MANY SUCH OMENS, A CHILD, BORN WITH THE SAME DESIRE AS THE EXECUTIONER.

He turned his face to the sky, "The second piece of the puzzle arrived in the Mire. A purpose to succeed the nothingness I seek. That purpose was granted by you Alvah." He turned to Mirai, "I do not know how many pieces of the puzzle there are. But I know that you could hold another. Do you desire something? Chaos, power, love, money, family, blood? What is it that you seek, Mirai?"

Wrath of the Unknown... (Group plot mission) Empty Re: Wrath of the Unknown... (Group plot mission)

Post by Mirai Thu May 28, 2020 10:47 pm

She had set herself to lean against one of the many scarred walls. Her fingers were still softly and slowly tracing the pain etched surface. She reflected upon the words of the the other. "What.. do I desire?"

Desire. The word resonated her. What was it she wanted? Did she want to meet back up with the sister she didn't know? Did she want power to prove to those who doubted her that she was worth something? Did she want unlimited troves of wealth so that she could simply do as she pleased? The truth was, these were all just pipe dreams. They were nothing more than surface deep.

She had stood up and stepped forward not more than two more steps. She had turned to face away from them. For a moment, all light had left her eyes. Her mask fell to the ground and shattered away. All want had been so far buried it would have never resurfaced again had there not been something there to drag it back. She wrapped her arms around her as though that feeling either made her so cold she couldn't help it.. or she wanted to hold it so close it would never leave again.

"My Desire... is just to be in the center of it all. I don't care how this screwed up world ends up. If it is the dream of the crucible for this world to be reduced to the very thing it came from.. the ash and dust... Then so be it. I just want to watch it happen first hand. I want to see it with my own two eyes. I'm curious to see what the world will do to stop it.. or to even accelerate it. I just want to witness every moment. Free will, power, money, these are inconsequential at best. To live the moment.. that is the conviction I seek."

She had turned back, the mask once more placed back where it belonged. She softly sighed and brushed the hair from her eyes. "This story of the executioner is gone now.. There's no witnessing that. There is only writing a new one."

He listened to his group intently as they explained how they had come to view this place, the demon that was the executioner and the state of what they were, and what they should be! These two both had shown him although separately, that their ambitions and goals coalesced with his own, or at least laid upon the same path and end goal. For once in his life, Alvah didn't feel alone in the sweeping tide of the world.

He nodded to the two of them and bowed to them, an act in it of itself that was seemingly unknown of from him, "
Your faith in our goals and in me, will not go unnoticed. The crucible formed from our desires will continue to grow and be strong enough to finally contain and reshape this world. Mirai, Nemo... We shall be the start to a glorious and malignant cancer that will take this world by storm after slowly building to a cacophony of fury and purpose. What the executioner meant to the world will become our own visage, but we will not be mindless beasts on a rampage. We will be deliberate and focused.", rising from the bow he fixed his Crimson orbs on them before looking off and onto the dilatated cathedral.

He would maneuver himself towards the cathedrals entrance, stopping at where the door used to reside for the half demolished building. He found himself staring straight unto the body of a monk of some standing considering the remnants of clothing they had worn. A staff of ornate construction laid splintered next to the skeletal remains. A letter scroll nestled in its left hand. Approaching the skeleton, Alvah retrieved the scroll, before handing it to Nemo, "
Read it for us Nemo...", the face of the man had gone somber. He had humbled himself for the first time in his life, to his new coalition and was having an internal struggle dealing with it.

AH, SHE IS THE WATCHER. She desires the collapse, to see it, to know it. She gives us a third piece of the puzzle. First, our desire, second, a purpose beyond the desire, and now, one to witness the fulfillment of that desire.

Nemo smiled, satisfaction filling his face, "Then I will show it to you Mirai. I will show you a world brought to nothing. I will ensure that you live to see it. As best I can, I will fulfill this promise."

WE FIND IT NOW. Desire for our desire beyond its own self perpetuation. NO, ALLIES. Hah! I suppose so, yes.

He returned Alvah's bow, "The first plans of our Crucible flower. The malignancy will begin its spread at the heart of the two villages."

He accepted the scroll from Alvah, it was contained in a scroll case that had protected it over the course of the last few centuries. Likely with the aid of chakra. He unfurled it, and began to read in a monotone.

"I have accepted a man into the grounds of the temple. He was injured in violent conflict. He bears a weapon of terrible aura and potency. The brothers and sisters question my decision. But I believe that this man can be healed, both his flesh and his mind. I suspect it will be my greatest test.

He has awoken. He was confused about our hospitality.

We have spoken more now. His views on himself and his purpose leave me chilled, but undeterred.

Perhaps I have taken too much upon myself, his will burns me like fire. He is filled with so much rage, it is directionless and wild, I do not understand."

Nemo looked up, "The writing changes here, a new author, the writing is scrawled, only a few words." He looked back down.

    "This is just the beginning."

Nemo cocked his head, "The Executioner gives us his blessing."
