The sun was shaded on this cool and calming day on the scorched lands around Nikkousato almost feeling like spring rebirth, causing the ambient temperature to be a very comfortable and gentle mid seventies. An avian cacophony of chirps and calls echoed throughout the valley that laid beside Nikkousato, the ever rushing northern river adding to the overall ambiance of the serene beauty the desert could hold when given a new lens. It had been several weeks since Gen had been forced to take a break from being as active of a ninja, something that had come unexpectedly from recent events but, out of everything that had happened, it was the least shocking thing. It hadn't been long since he had fought that Senju woman with his brother on the that fateful night, and then everything that had come afterwards finally culminating in the transplant that Sojiro had performed on him which had gifted him with new and amazing abilities that belonged to the Akimichi, the clan itself convinced that Gen's mother must have been one.
They were extremely welcoming towards him, with open arms so to speak as they had trained him to become one of them and use his new abilities as well as mark the progress of his healing as his body had become severely emaciated when he first transformed. This was the first time in a long time that he was back to form and feeling great, despite the sheer amount of food he needed to eat. In wanting to return to some normalcy he would go out and about the village to check on the orphanage for the first time in a while. His feet carrying from his estate towards the front of the village with absent steps and a busy mind as he reflected on everything as of late. He was at a certain precipice in his life that he wasn't sure how he would feel after once he crossed over fully.
Whilst walking through town he visited the orphanage first and went upon his usual morning tasks of getting the children ready and helping to make the community meal. Once that was over with, he went over to the academy and taught some basic Taijutsu classes first before moving on to general instructional training on the climbing technique and such. After his morning routine was over however, he would stop to get a bite to eat at one of the multitude of Donburi shops dotting Nikkousato. He settled on a chicken and brown rice donburi with egg and bamboo shoots before making his way to the mission HQ to receive his mission of gathering some map data for the local region, with the intent of identifying any camps that may have been set up by bandits and the like.
The journey through the desert had become like clockwork for him as he traversed the dunes, taking care to keep the Matzi river in view for the whole journey. It was the easiest landmark to be able to follow so that he didn’t get lost in the repetitiveness of the desert. Upon arriving at what the general location had been noted as for the area he was supposed to survey, he went to work, climbing the nearest rock face to get a better vantage point of the area. He could tell that the land was very repetitive and lacked any real identifying markers outside of other rocky outcroppings that hadn’t been swallowed up by the dunes.
He couldn't fathom how the journey had gone so well so far, he hadn't seen a ferocious wild beast, bandit, or dangerous terrain piece since coming out here. It was both calming and unnerving to have such an easy day in the advent of the region he lived in. Nothing had gone awry so far, and everything seemed to be smooth sailing from here. It was an actually relaxing feeling given everything he had gone through as of late, his life had become both better and harder in many aspects and he couldn't fathom how he was so lucky to have had this happen to him and yet so cursed at the same time.
As he made mental notes of what he had seen, he jotted them down into a representational drawing to be added to later when he had proper tools and time. He would rise from the pleasurable leisure spot he had found and stretch causally his body feeling both relaxed and slightly stiff from the long time he had spent there. As he got up and began scaling down the cliff he would think about Sonin and everything that has come after. This day was cathartic for him and had shown him that some good things can still happen despite all the bad going on. This life still had its perks. The sweltering heat finally getting to him, he began the long journey home and would soak in the indoor pool on the estate grounds, needing to celebrate and be lively this time of year! How could he have so much bent up emotions and aggression when everything was honestly going in the right direction finally.
His life may have not taken the route it was supposed to after his parents untimely death, but fate was cruel for a reason, as it had forged a mighty protector in the process of his relatively short and complicated life. He had family now, and friends, and purpose, and control - all things he thought he would never be able to grasp in his hands. He was finally a fully fledged a human being not just a living weapon, and he loved every moment of it now. This realization had dawned on him as he thought about the date and realized he had missed his birthday once again. As looked around the pool house he thought to himself, maybe it was time to actually invite people over and share his home with even more individuals.
