There were many things that Sojiro had expected to do in his time as a Shinobi; from exciting assassinations to boring protection details. But, during all of that time, he never thought that he would get chosen for a mission to infiltrate a group of people to find out something about them. When he thought about information gathering missions, he thought about the things you read about in fancy books or saw on TV. There was a man who dressed up in a suit and would make his way into a beautiful party, where the woman would fawn over him and he would be the center of attention. Getting the info that he would need was like breathing, slipping out of sight, and upstairs somewhere. No doubt where he would find the safe and process to crack it open, using some type of thieving technique that Sojiro was unaware of. Of course, Sojiro hadn't been granted with that type of mission, of course not. There were no fancy parties or sexy balls for him to attend, instead there was only dirt. And the wilderness. Which, was still a pretty good outcome, but it had not been what he was expecting to have to do. Part of him was annoyed as he looked around the group in front of him and thought about the situation that he was in.
Sojiro had been given a job to infiltrate a group of people; a group of traveling bandits that were moving across the land and working for some type of bandit lord that was trying to make a name for himself. The bestial man wasn't really worried about the details, all he knew was that his job had been to get to know the group and travel with them for a little bit. That had been easy enough! The group was only about eight people big before Sojiro had decided to join up with them, posing as a normal sellsword himself. Despite Sojiro being one of the best Shinobi in the Sun Village, there was no denying that the man looked like more beast than man. All it took was wearing some fur armor that seemed thrown together to pass off as a reasonable ally, as well as defeating their strongest men in one on one combat. Sojiro's tanned skin and muscular form made him look like the mighty bandit as they began to travel across the land, starting to follow his lead as time went on! It didn't take too long before they were killing less men on the roads and instead just robbing rich wagons, soon giving them to the poor.
After a week of traveling together, the group had decided that Sojiro was truly one of them and he felt the same way! Despite knowing he was going to have to turn these men and women in, he was truly enjoying the time that he had with them right now. The man wasn't really sure how much he was going to do before they would finally trust him enough to bring them to their leader so that he could return to his village with this information... But then, that night during dinner, they had agreed it was finally time for them to meet their leader. So, when the morning had finally come around, Sojiro would move with the bandits towards the village of the Sun! The man was shocked to find themselves traveling in this direction but there were plenty of bases that were located in the deserts and surrounding regions, so he chastised himself for his surprise. After hours of traveling, the group would have eventually come to the Infinite Canyons that were surrounding the village and Sojiro would follow while chatting casually with the others in his group.
The group would traverse down the side of a mountain with ease and eventually into a cave. It had been a tight squeeze for some parts of it but eventually they would come to a carved out portion of cavern, which was large and extremely well lit. A man sat in a large chair in the distance, large black beard with a balding head. He looked just how Sojiro had expected him to, sitting in this disgusting castle made out of filth as though it was some type of achievement. Sojiro wanted to leave now that he knew what he wanted to but he had no choice, going along with his facade still and pretending to be one of them. He would eat and drink merrily with the men and enjoy the night! On the next day, as they were heading out to leave, the group was left a little bit hungover. Of course, Sojiro had never drunk before and made sure to keep that record, not actually being affected. But, as they made their way out, Sojiro had pretended to be the worse. He went over to the edge, as though he was sick, and pretended to throw up. As he did, his hand would strike the ground and cause it to crumble, so that it would fall underneath him. To the bandits that thought they were all friends, it would look like the man had simply fallen to try and throw up before the ground gave out underneath him, claiming his life.
They tried to save their friend but there was nothing that he could do. The person had disappeared into darkness and there was no way to save him... They were just normal people, after all. Of course, as Sojiro would disappear out of sight, it was more than easy enough to summon some chakra to his feet so he could stop his fall. Thanks to the location of their base, the man wasn't far from the village and with the group thinking he was dead, it'd be more than easy to head back without any suspicion!
