Recently reintroducing himself back into village life had a lot of ups and downs for Gen, he got to see the orphanage and teach the kids again, and he was able to interact with all of his academy friends and try so many different foods that he hadn't experienced in a number of years, but he also had to take on more missions and readiness tests from the Kage now too. Today was one of those unlucky days where he had to do said readiness tests. Usually they were simple tasks, showing if he had kept physically fit, or could still perform basic jutsu and techniques, today however was live combat training. Two Genin would be pitted against each other in a taijutsu only test of skill, first to be knocked out or fall into the water lost. He knew his skill with taijutsu was pretty good, but what if the other guy was just as good or better? Or worse! What if he seriously hurt them on accident? The swirling anxiety ridden thoughts penetrated his mind for a brief moment before he steeled himself, remembering this is what he spent so long training for; he would be ready for any and all challenges.

With the sun at its zenith overhead the day was in full swing and sweltering as per the norm in the Sun village. Upon arriving at the designated training area he witnessed the bridge overlooking the villages koi pond that was to be their battle ground for the day. He didn't see a proctor or anyone else on site but that didn't really mean anything, there was likely someone watching from the shadows as to not get in the way of the genin. Having readied himself, Gen took up position on the right side of the bridge in a red colored square, noticing there was an equivalent blue square on the other side. He was wearing his standard training clothing as this was supposed to be taijutsu only, so just his dark brown gi bottoms, and a crimson belt. His facial hair was well grown in today as he hadn't shaved so he had quite the lion like appearance. Taking a strong dachi stance he waited for his opponent to show up, "We got this Gen, focus and see your dreams come to fruition."

When Sojiro had been told he was supposed to take some sort of readiness test from the Kage herself, it caused him to dread every moment of it because he hated written tests... That was until he found out that it would be a battle of power and skill, a battle of men and warriors; a battle of taijutsu! Now that was an idea that had gotten him excited. A grin was on the man's lips as he walked out of the forest and towards the bridge, taking in a deep breath of air as he looked at the Blue Square he was approaching, "Alright Sojiro, time to stretch your legs and show you haven't gotten rusty while sticking your nose in a book..." He spoke lowly to himself.

Having heard that it was a Taijutsu bout, he had a similar idea to Genkumaru and had left his gear at home, dressed only in a pair of black pants that stopped halfway down his calves. His hands were mostly bandaged up to the fingers, the white cloth ending just before both of his elbows, having down the same for his feet. Sojiro would hop from one foot to the other as he looked at Genkumaru on the other side of the bridge, finally picking up on the smell of gunpowder strongly, "Oi, oi! If it isn't the Ballsy Bombin' Genkumaru!" He said, screaming out a terribly thrown together nickname for the man while waving his hand. But only a moment Sojiro would take an offensive stance and dash forward across the bridge towards his opponent, "Show me what you've got, man!"

Seeing his "Beast" in arms Sojiro was his test mate actually caused a wave of relief to wash over Gen, he knew that Soji could take whatever he threw at him and give him a challenge too! Stepping forward, remaining in a strong dachi stance still, Gen traversed roughly five meters of the bridge towards the man before stopping to speak and answer his friends taunt, "Soji! I see they even let the barely literate ones have a chance at representing the village!", chuckling while he taunted his comrade, the lightheartedness was very evident in his delivery, "Are you ready to have a good challenge? Cause I won't go easy on you, just because it's you!", another lighthearted chuckle came from Gen before he became serious once more.

Knowing that it was Sojiro he was fighting against Gen decided to give him a show. He started with a side rolling kick, flicking his right leg forward in a mid body angled rotating kick to his left side before placing his right foot on the bridge and switching into a left leg led straight lined head kick, and then propelling himself into a front facing axe kick before rising into a standard head level snap kick with his right foot. Pointing his foot directly at Sojiro he then slowly pivoted it back down to the bridge and resumed his dachi stance.

"Come and get it Soji, I think you might be my only equal with taijutsu as far as our companions go, so make this entertaining!", this time his speech pattern was much more assertive and direct, clearly his fierce competitiveness was bubbling forth to the surface and driving his emotional high right now. Sojiro was a fantastic opponent to do this type of readiness test with as Gen could go all out and had just as good a chance of losing as winning, which meant he could truly enjoy himself.

The bestial youth would watch as Gen started to shift down the bridge towards him and started to perform a few of his moves, Sojiro making sure to watch closely and nodding his head in approval afterward, "I'll take any challenge you can give, Gen, and return it tenfold!" He shouted back in a tone that was both confident and playful at the same time. As he watched Gen's moves, it was actually a bit more apparent that he may be the only other person who practiced Taijutsu that Sojiro had met directly. The man would roll his shoulder a bit as he moved forward before taking a battle stance of his own.

Sojiro's stance didn't quite have a name but it showed the more bestial side of the man. His feet would slide apart with his left side leading, lined up with shoulders to keep himself square. As his body got lower to the ground, his claws would bare themselves a bit as his hands remained opened, raising up by his sides with his right hand back by his chest. He almost looked like a beast that was ready to attack... And then he did! The man easily dashed forward and swung his right arm in a powerful motion, tearing through the air and crossing over his chest. Keeping the momentum of his body, his whole body would twist into the air so that his left leg would come around bearing the full strength of his momentum. Just before he would strike the ground though, he'd twist his heel and his hands would press against the ground, bringing his leg around in a sweep! The sweep was easily transitioned back into his standing up, taking his stance again.

"I think you're right, you may be the first person who actually practiced in Taijutsu that I get to fight!" He said with a seriousness in his voice but just as much excitement, he really wanted to test his limits. The men had drawn closer to each other now... Who would make the first move?!

Gen was having the time of his life right now after watching the beautifully executed bestial display of raw skill and talent that Sojiro had given him while showing off his own Taijutsu skill. It must have been quite a marvel between the two of them to any bystander really, one clearly was taught or learned formally while the other was obviously self taught and instinctual in nature, yet you could not deny that they were both highly skilled and ambitious. They made a perfect compliment to one another as they were so diametrically opposed in styles.

Moving up another five meters he set himself equal distance to his movement away from his opponent, before he finished in a new stance. The crescent moon was defense based stance which involved turning his body sideways so that his right shoulder was pointed towards his opponents chest, with his legs slightly bent and shoulder with a part arms at the ready. With this stance it was much easier to deflect in coming blows and avoid tripping, as well as launching counter offensives. With his right hand he motioned Sojiro to come at him with a little finger movement, "I will show you what refined technique can do against bestial force Soji. Don't hold back, I will never forgive you if you do!".

Watching each of Genkumaru's moves and the stances he seemed to favor, it was obvious that Sojiro was going to get a good run for his money in this fight! Usually, his raw bestial force and fighting style was enough to work down his opponents, would that still work here? Of course, it would! "I'll show you the power of a beast can't be stopped, no matter what!" He called back to Genkumaru as he settled fully into his stance, one that was obviously defensive and was the equivalent of 'Bring it', in fighting terms.

Sojiro would bring his hands down to his side as he would close the last 5 meters that were between the two of them, coming to stop most of his forward moment as he came in front of Gen. Sojiro moved his right hand so that it came from down low and drew its power from his core, aiming to try and drive an uppercut against the side of his ribcage closest to him. Sojiro's eyes watched Genku's arms as he got close, but the man was hoping that Gen would either dodge the blow or blow it... Since this wasn't his main attack. Pivoting a bit on his left heel as he drove out this punch, he tried to use the motion of his arm to cover the fact that he brought his leg up following it closely.

The real attempt here was to try and get his leg between the two of them and then using the rest of his momentum and strength to kick Genku squarely and try to send him tumbling backward a few steps. Had it gone as planned, or even if both attacks moved and he had gotten Gen to move from his spot, he could follow through. Sojiro would throw himself into the air with ease and whip himself around, aiming to try and bring a heavy heel-drop onto the top of Genkumaru's head and drive him into the ground! Assuming he wasn't stopped mid-air or something, he would land on the ground and take his more feral fighting stance that he was in before.

The battle was beginning to heat up as Sojiro charged forward at him, Gen watching intently for his opponents movements noticed that his crouching based technique could possibly end in a feint as was typical of them, and from this deduction he executed the crescent stances namesake kata. This involved sweeping his right hand downwards to parry the uppercut by knocking it off course as it whizzed by him, followed by pivoting his body off of his right foot so as to make a crescent shape with the turn intending to end up behind Sojiro's back from the pivoting turn, if this worked he would end up running his back perpendicular to Sojiros kick that followed soon after the deflected uppercut causing that to also move past him.

This motion gave him prime position to target Sojiro's back with a rotating heel kick, and so Gen went for it, however he had not calculated the aerial reverse heel kick from his opponent, and midway through his own kick, he ended up taking the blow to his lower right ribcage/abdominal region, causing pain spikes to echo through his body. His momentum still going through with the kick however he tried to pivot it more into a leg grapple, attempting to wrap it around Sojiros outstretched leg and pull him closer, while attempting that he would launch a power packed punch towards his comrades torso area. The difficulty of fully dodging this attack elevated by the fact that Sojiro was currently airborne. If it connected then Gen would attempt to uncouple and back away a few feet, and if it didn't he would still attempt to back away resetting into a crescent moon stance regardless once more although with an aching right side, "That was pretty good Soji, you sure can hit hard and quick!". A bruise now began to form over Gen's lower right side that was shades of purple and red as blood rushed to the internal injury.

Sojiro hadn't expected all of his strikes to land but there was no denying that he was a little shocked when Genkumaru's motion allowed him to block the uppercut, his feet sliding along the ground so that he could move along the length of Sojiro's leg! So this was what it was like to fight someone who knew what they were doing? That had caused a smirk to form on his lips, his twist, and overhead kick allowed him to narrowly avoid the blow aimed for his back before he felt his heel connect with Genkumaru's ribs. Sojiro was now facing Genkumaru fully and could only watch as his leg was caught, pulling him closer.

Sojiro could do little to block or dodge Genkumaru's blow, so instead, he would brace himself and grit his teeth, letting the punch connect with his chest and trying to tilt his upper form a bit. He'd take the full force of the punch and grunt lowly in response but with twisting his chest, he hoped Gen's hand would slide across his chest and against his ribs. Sojiro's right arm would then clasp the hand, hopefully, between his body and the limb and, maybe to Gen's surprise, he wouldn't try to land but instead let his momentum carry him towards Gen!

The bestial youth would try to quickly loop his left arm around the back of Gen's neck, trying to reach around to roughly grab the back of his left armpit, "I'm not done yet!" The man shouted, bringing his forehead down so that he could strike Genkumaru with a firm headbutt, the sound of heads colliding making a loud 'THUD'. Sojiro himself was even seeing stars from the motion but he just closed his eyes and followed through, hopefully stunning Gen at that moment so he could push him, friend, backward and flip him in the air. Sojiro hoped to his Gen's grip on his leg and his own grasp on Gen's armpit to twist them and throw him about a meter across the bridge.

If this had worked, Sojiro would be crouched almost against the ground, on leg spread out from sweeping land that he performed. His skin was tanned, so it was a bit harder to see the bruising on his right peck caused from Gen's strike. Sojiro's eyes would watch Genkumaru closely this time, ready for him to recover and come charging back, assuming it had worked as planned.

In the heat of the moment even the best held plans fail. He felt a massive surge of triumph as his meaty fist collided squarely with Sojiro's chest, the feeling of his fist sinking ever so slightly into the muscle bound sinew of Soji's pectoral giving a satisfying rush of endorphins to him urging him to fight harder now. His hand slipped along his opponents flesh right into the cleverly planned arm lock of sojiro's making, and was trapped against Sojiro's body. Having very little time to react Gen braced himself for whatever might happen next by opening his left hand that was now trapped and grasping onto Sojiro's body to keep him in a tight embrace as his fingers coiled around Sojiro's right shoulder blade and arm pit with renewed resolve.

Then came Sojiro's left arm as it grappled onto his frame with unforgiving resolve, pulling him even closer into the headbutt that shook Gen to his core as his knees began to buckle when their skulls made contact, his forehead splitting open allowing the crimson liquid held within to stream down his face. Most would be utterly stunned from such a blow but Gen knew better then to fully give into the pain, fighting through every ounce of his fiber telling him to give up, he tried to grab Sojiro with his right arm and bear hug him with all of his muscle bound might as a follow up, refusing to be knocked down. With this motion he would also attempt to limit any movement on his opponents end. If this worked his bear hug would then turn into a front facing body slam using Sojiro as a landing pad from the proposed grapple if successful, as he would try and jump forward to land on top of Sojiro.

There was a fierce pride as his head struck against Genkumaru's and he felt the man's form give way, causing Sojiro to almost miss the feeling of the man grabbing tightly onto him as he prepared to fling the male. Of course, there was nothing that he could do as they came off the ground and flipped through the air, his attempt to get the man off of his failing so instead; he braced himself again. There was a grunt from Sojiro as Genkumaru would come down on top of him and he was crushed between the two forces. Sojiro felt something crack inside of him, Genkumaru might have been able to feel it depending just on how alert he was, but it had definitely been a rib or two cracking, potentially breaking. But even with that injury, he wouldn't give up on his assault on Gen.

With the tall man on top of him, Sojiro would bring his free leg around Gen's waist and twist with all of his might, his hand still holding onto his opponent's armpit. As they moved, he would hopefully bring his other leg free of Gen so that it could slip around the other side of his waist, his ankles coming together just before Genkumaru was on his back. Sojiro tucked his right arm behind his back and would grab his own ribs, tightening the grip on Gen's caught hand and keeping both of them with only one free arm. If all had gone the right way, Sojiro's legs would be locked at the ankles while also being caught underneath Gen, so that he couldn't be pushed off of him, and his left arm would be free.

Sojiro was only able to get a few inches between both of their bodies with Genku still holding onto him, though he hoped the man would let go, seeing Sojiro would raise his fist and bring it down. Sojiro would aim a few quick jabs towards the bruise on Gen's ribs, hoping to cause the pain to distract him so that he could raise his left side back a bit and straddle the man's waist, pressing firmly to try and keep him pinned there. In this same motion, he would try to bring his left hand down to strike across Gen's face, right on the jawline.

The hard landing had winded Gen, especially after receiving the headbutt from Sojiro's thick skull. He had felt something give in Sojiro's body when they landed but didn't have the energy in that moment to capitalize on it. As he tried to recover himself he only ended up getting flipped onto his own back with Sojiro in a dominant position, the one big mistake of this entire bout on Gen's part. The fight had taken a toll on him as Sojiro was just as excellent at counter attacking has Gen had been, Sojiro's hits just had more impact on where they landed then Gen's did. This fight had been progressively sliding away from his favor after Sojiro was able to do a full powered headbutt, a truly devastating move in martial arts.

Still trying to hold the man close to his body and squeeze with all of his might, he thought he hadn't left enough room for counter attacking, but he was wrong as Sojiro began assailing his form with targeted strikes, the initial one to the already injured abdomen causing Gen to spit up blood onto his opponents back. His vision fading slowly he felt blow after blow sending him further into unconsciousness as he was in the inferior defensive position, with the last strike on his jaw sealing the deal. Before he went black however he attempted one last full powered blow to Sojiro's face with his free arm as his vision faded into darkness.

Sojiro was ready for the battle to continue going on as he drove his fist against Genkumaru's face, this was the most fun that he'd ever had! There was a bubbling excitement that was starting to burn stronger and harder inside of the man... That was right before Genkumaru's fist would come up with all its might and strike Sojiro directly in the face, the sound of bones breaking evident as it connected squarely with his nose. Blood would almost explode out onto Gen's fist and both of the men's chest, the bestial man's body leaning backward from the blow and stunned for a moment as he rested there.

When he pulled himself back, he had been bringing his left hand to punch Genkumaru in the face, Sojiro's nose was completely sideways! And his eyes locked onto Gen's face... Stopping a moment before striking to see that the man had gone unconscious. Sojiro let out a soft noise seeing this, not because he was disappointed, but because he just wanted to keep going, "You're pretty strong Gen, a little bit more and I might've lost." He spoke out loud to the unconscious man before pulling his legs from underneath him and moving to stand. Raising his hand to his face, there was a sick snap as he forced his nose back into place.

He would ungracefully take turns doing a 'snot rocket' with each of his nostrils, disgusting blobs of blood coming out of his nose when he did it. Afterward, he would lean down and grab one of Gen's arms and pull it over his form, hauling the man up and starting to head back towards town, "We have to do this again, there's no question about it." He spoke to himself while they walked back to town... Or, moreso while he drug Gen back to town.
