Appearance: Tatsuya has a lean build. His legs are more muscular than his arms due to a focus on speed and agility, and his acrobatic fighting style. His most immediately notable feature is the eyepatch which covers his missing left eye.
The second most notable would be the hikae-style tattoo that covers a large portion of his body. The tattoo covers his biceps, upper chest, and stretches from his neck to the back of his thighs. The main focus of the tattoo is the fearsome Hannya demon face on his back but also includes red blossoms and white snakes. The tattoo is not visible when Tatsuya wears his suit, but a portion on the chest can be seen when he wears his more casual outfit.
His black hair always remains pulled back in a low ponytail. When dressed casually he wears a snake-skin jacket over his bare chest and black leather pants. In more serious situations he will wear a formal black suit. Either outfit will include black leather gloves and his steel-tipped shoes.

Personality: Tatsuya’s personality has two main facets: his “Mad Dog” persona that most people see and the man underneath it. His persona is influenced by his past as a prisoner and the desire to live life to the fullest now that he is free of it. It is based off three friends he once had one who lived for thrills and put excitement and pleasure above all else, one who used his strength to protect the ones he loved, and one who, as far as Tatsuya is concerned, was so persistent he might as well have been immortal. These three paragons of tenacity combined are the origin of the Mad Dog. When acting like this Tatsuya is very erratic. He is prone to fits of wild cackling and crazed smiles and will become violent and throw or break things with minimal provocation. In short, you could say he does whatever crosses his mind and is not burdened with impulse control.
Behind the act, Tatsuya is actually a rather charismatic man. He is loyal to a fault to any who proves worthy of his respect (usually through feats of strength) and despite his theatrically unhinged persona, he detests dishonorable people. He would go out of his way to protect innocents, especially children, who he has a soft spot for. He is not perfect; a rather pragmatic fellow, he will sometimes allow his sense of self-preservation and duty to win out over his need to do the right thing, especially if doing so could prove dangerous to the ones he cares about. This leads him to be very competent at getting his work done and thusly to be favored by his superiors, even if at times he would rather not be.

History: Born to a destitute family on the outskirts of the village of Debon, Tatsuya was orphaned at a young age. He was not alone in this situation and he and a small group of other orphans banded together to survive. In their childhood, this amounted to little more than stealing food to eat but as they grew into young men it evolved into banditry. The band grew slightly but remained a relatively small and tight-knit group. Tatsuya was the de facto leader of the group on account of his charisma and his self-taught Ninjutsu abilities. He led them to many victories, mostly on account of the luck of fools and being a big fish in a small pond. Of course, that luck eventually ran out.
One fateful day the group attempted to waylay a small merchant caravan and rob them of their valuables, as they had done many times before. Unfortunately, this was not a merchant caravan but a group of criminals traveling under the cover of one, a group much more dangerous than Tatsuya’s band of vandals. It was a monstrous group of nukenin and they killed most of Tatsuya’s group and imprisoned the remainder, including Tatsuya. For several months they were kept, each locked away in their own cells. No one ever spoke to him, and he was given enough food and water to survive. Tatsuya did not even know why they were keeping him alive until they came and took his eye.
It was a stroke of luck that shinobi from Nikkousato tracked down the nukenin’s hideout before they harvested anything else from Tatsuya. He escaped, half-mad, from his cell during the chaos of the assault and the village shinobi found him found him pounding his bloody broken knuckles into the paste that had once been a nukenin’s head. He was covered in wounds, a knife still between his ribs, and would likely have bled to death in short order. The nukenin, of course, was much more skilled than he was but he had managed to overpower him through a burst of lunatic strength and sheer disregard for his own well-being. One of the shinobi tried to stop him, to calm him down, but Tatsuya lashed out at him as well unable to tell friend from foe. The shinobi paralyzed him with a Ninjutsu technique and effortlessly knocked him unconscious. As his waking thoughts fled from him the last thing he heard was, “You should just put him down Shimano, he’s a mad dog.”
Tatsuya awoke a week later in a hospital in Nikkousato, those words still ringing in his head. The shinobi who had struck him was there and introduced himself as Shimano Nara, an elder member of Nikkousato’s infamous Nara clan. He could have left Tatsuya in that cave but he didn’t and he could have let Tatsuya leave the hospital and wander off to die an ignominious death somewhere, but he didn’t do that either. What he did instead was to tell Tatsuya what he had found in that cave. Criminals, corpses, and him. As he saw it Tatsuya owed him for saving his life and the only way to pay his debt would be in service to Nikkousato. A harsh veneer to be sure, but a necessary one, Shimano saw himself in the young man and thought that by appealing to his pride and sense of honor that he could give him a chance to rebuild a life in the Sun Scorched Desert.
He had judged Tatsuya correctly. If he had just asked him to stay Tatsuya would have no doubt left, ashamed by the thought of owning even more of a debt than he already did. By making it seem like a repayment he had convinced the young man it was the right thing to do. From that day forward Tatsuya would live to repay the life debt he owed Shimano, but also for his no-good friends who had died. By taking an aspect of them into himself he could allow them to live vicariously through him, and he vowed he would have more fun and live crazier than any of them could have hoped for. Thus the “Mad Dog” was born and, following his official adoption into the Nara clan, “The Mad Dog of Shimano”. The name was not meant to be a compliment but Tatsuya could not help but crack a smile every time he heard it, his friends would have thought it was badass.
Though the training took some time and made Shimano seriously reconsider taking Tatsuya back to the cave where he had found him eventually the young man was competent enough to pass through Nikkousato’s shinobi academy and become a Genin. His life as a real shinobi was only just beginning.
