Sojiro listened to Hikari explain why the suit was actually best for his clan and he nodded his head a bit, understanding that. It was the reason he only wore minimal clothing and decided to go with no shoes, it fit his fighting style best. But, suddenly, things changed. At the moment that Akane tensed and began to leap back several times, Augustus would have left her shoulder and taken off into the air. He let out disapproving noises but it was hard to hear above the commotion. Sojiro's face would have dropped into a shocked expression at the way that she was suddenly freaking out, though, was it his fault? He could simply smell the dirt on her but... Not everyone understood that. *Dammit Sojiro, you really messed this up.* And he'd grunt, starting to raise a hand to reply to the woman, "N-" But before he could even start to talk, there was suddenly someone standing in between Sojiro and Akane. It was Hikari.
As Hikari started to speak, Sojiro's chest started to feel tight and his face started to contort a bit. *What is this?* Hikari started to pour out everything on his mind to them, screaming about his sins and how Sojiro was a good person. *What are you doing, Hikari?* Sojiro's brows furrowed and he felt his right hand move towards his chest, fingers slowly grasping onto the thin material of his t-shirt. What the hell was happening? If Akane was paying attention to the bestial youth behind Hikari, there was no denying the pain that was on his face. The way that Hikari was talking about himself caused him to feel uncomfortable... No, what was this feeling? Hikari cried as he screamed about Sojiro being a nice person, and how he didn't deserve this. How, if anyone was a pervert that should be hated, it was him! And during all of that, Hikari couldn't get his name right.
Hikari Usagi was one of the first people Sojiro met when he came to visit this village, and even then he had gotten his name wrong. When Jess had revealed herself to the group, it had been because Sojiro had raised his voice at Hikari for calling him an 'Inuzuka'. He hadn't really thought about it like that too much, that maybe if he had tried to keep his temper, things would have never derailed how they did. But even now, as Hikari was crying and defending Sojiro, he still couldn't get his name right. And that was when it finally dawned on Sojiro.
When Hikari had been calling him an 'Inuzuka', talking about their clan techniques and abilities... It has been his way of trying to relate. Hikari Usagi had been trying to make Sojiro feel welcomed and then, later, remembered. Sojiro couldn't imagine trying to remember everybody's name when that was what he did for a living, especially the name of a foreign shinobi. And in that moment, Sojiro noticed that he didn't care Hikari got his name wrong. "I've been an idiot..." Sojiro finally muttered to himself. The man's heart was beating fast and he felt his palms get a bit sweaty, it was clear that he was nervous. Anxious. He was afraid, even. But even with all that, he would take a deep breath and move a bit.
"Hikari, how can you say that about yourself?" He asked genuinely, a bit of hurt in his voice as he moved around the Bunny. He would move in front of Hikari, turning his back to Akane fully, and take a knee in front of the rabbit. "Those things that you say about yourself aren't true. Those things are what make the Usagi strong, isn't that what you told me?" He scanned the rabbit's face the best he could, wearing a pained expression that didn't fit the beast's face well, "You would never tell me there is something wrong with how I am; no matter how many times I've mistaken you for an edible rabbit." And although it was a funny statement, it wasn't delivered like a joke, "Because that's who I am. When I met you, Hikari, I respected you. I had never met someone with so much pride in their family name, their clan; their kin." He spoke with pride, as someone of the animal kingdom himself, he knew what it was like to have so much pride in what they did, in what they were.
"I don't know what it's like to have someone you care to lie to you or to threaten you." Sojiro glanced awkwardly to the side, looking for some type of phrase but falling flat. "I don't let people get that close to me. You're different than that, Hikari. You make people happy by getting closer to them, just by being near them. Whether a client, some stranger, or a random person from another village... You do your best to make their days better, even if just a little bit." He was hesitant but he moved a hand to try and wipe a tear from Hikari's face, "I haven't even known you that long and it's clear for me to see, even if you're having issues seeing it right now." What was he saying? He didn't really know, the air felt heavy and he didn't really feel like himself.
"Don't let anyone ever shame you for being who you are, Hikari. And if they ever try to, I'll help you shut them up." He was scared, his heart beat faster and he'd tried to lower both Hikari's arms to his sides, "Thank you for protecting me, Hikari. No one has ever done that before. Will you let me do the same for you?"[/i]
