It started with a dream—a dream that mutant- and humankind could indeed co-exist in spite of their differences. Others within the mutant community may not have shared this vision, but Xavier saw a future in which mutants would use their powers for good. The idea was simple: a school for the "gifted" that would simultaneously offer mutants sanctuary and provide a haven to hone their abilities. He has welcomed mutants young and old at the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters as a way to prepare for the future.
