Scout the Border w/ Arslan (Luci)

The team of four separated into their pairings. Cho and Arashi separated from the group and started their way to the outpost they were meant to fortify.

Tanno turned to her diminutive companion, “Shall we begin? Scouting isn’t just about looking for hostile individuals or groups, but also about increasing your and the village’s knowledge of the environment. Biology, ecology, geology, all three of these disciplines need constant updates to ensure that we can maximize our abilities to protect and grow the village.”

She crouched down and took out her medical bag and began collecting soil samples in glass test tubes, smoke from her pipe lazily rising in the air and dissipating.

“Speaking of abilities, what are your specialities? I focus on medical enhancements involving chemicals for the human body.”

The missions weren’t just about completing the assigned tasks within them, but they were about understanding each others’ capabilities and increasing their potential through challenging teamwork. Tanno was sure that she would learn something from these three, if not well, one had to try to discover to find anything. She picked up a desert beetle that scuttled past her moccasins, noting the coloration, size, and any notable features. This particular beetle could fly, suggesting that its main predator couldn’t and its prey could.

"I am well aware of what Scouting is," replied Arslan. In his hand was the map of their borders and the routes they were to take. He looked to the West and went in that direction.
"If I require your assistance in any of the Shinobi fields, you will be notified." He drew his hood on, squinting against the scorching sun. As usual he was in a cloak that shielded his body from the sun.
"I am a medical and taijutsu specialist. I do not know any jutsu. Any other question you wish answered?"

Well wasn’t that just a short and sweet conversation. Clearly he wasn’t much of a talker, but it was interesting that they shared the same specialties. Tanno took a moment to watch as Arslan made his way westward following a map he had in his possession. Well he had his radio if he ran into any trouble or found something interesting. Speaking of which this would be a good moment to check in with the other half of the team to see how they were doing at the outpost.

Tanno stood up from her investigation of the soil around her and activated her radio, “Test, test, Arashi? Cho? Arslan and I are beginning our investigation out here, how are things at the outpost?”

As she waited for a reply, Tanno’s eyes swept across the dunes in the distance and made a zigzag covering as much area with her scrutiny till it ended back at her. Nothing seemed off, no shadows crossing the tops of the dunes currently or any obvious signs of passage through the sand. A more thorough examination would be acquired. The weather report didn’t suggest any rain for the day so no need to be concerned about flash floods in the little gullies that form between the dunes. She took out the beetle she had acquired and wondered where the predators that ate it were located.
