The best way to explain how this is done is if one imagines a cup of water. Normally a cup filled with water is unable to move unless moved by an external force. However, if the water is moved on it's own from within the cup, then the cup itself could be moved from an internal force. The manipulation of one's own chakra allows for the user to move the chakra within themselves like water in a cup.
