Why did it have to be Snakes? (Group Mission)

Mission Info:

The day was hot and disgusting out, sweat would pool on almost any that stayed outside for even a modicum of time. The clouds were all but nonexistent as well so only the sun and its fiery glare would rain down on whomever stayed in its gaze. Gen had been tapped to carry out a sweep up mission to cleanse a section of the Kataki road from the happenings of a mysterious killer, supposedly silent and rapid in its strikes before completely annihilating the caravans that had approached this section of the road. Any survivors that made it back to the village swore that whatever it was, it could control the very earth. It was responsible for the deaths of several caravans already that had traveled the section of the Kataki road in the last few weeks.

At the mile marker nearest where the attacks occurred, Genkumaru was waiting for his counterpart to attend from the Sun village, a young Genin of the Akimichi clan that was becoming quite special to Gen as his pupil and eventual inheritor of all of his techniques as it seemed. Maxximus was an adept martial artist in his own right, and possessed immense strength which drew a significant amount of interest from Gen. He had planned on using these missions and training's over the next several months to groom and train the young man to be able to use the Lariat technique with him. Something that held a lot of significance to those that were Shinobi of the Sun. He held a lot of hope that after he was done with Maxximus, if something were to happen to himself and Sojiro, that this young man could take up their mantles as the Sword and Shield of the Sun.

Leaning against the guard station, a ten meter block style building that held rations and cots inside for travelers, he was wearing his usual attire and was sporting his headband today as a full bandanna to absorb some of the growing sweat from his brow. The sweltering heat clearly even affecting someone from Nikkkousato itself! Today would be a very interesting day that was for sure. All he hoped was that whatever they faced off against, it wasn't a damn Snake!

RIIIIINGGGGG.... The sound of an alarm going of and the screaming of a woman not too far from the door of Maxximus Akimichi would fill the air. All in the pursuit of waking the sleeping boy from his deep slumber. As he would open a single eye and raise up, he had seemed to be having an amazing dream but had to be brought back to reality. "If you don't get your butt in gear im going to slap you into next century!" the woman would say as she would slam open his door with fire in her eyes and a slipper in her hand. His mother was pregnant again, but even that would not stop her from beating his butt. As he would raise up and get ready for the day he would drag his feet out of the door and take in the rays of the sun. Seeming just a bit more chipper after soaking in these rays.

it wouldn't take him long to make it to the outpost near kataki road but he had been fairly late. He was told to meet his master, Genkumaru, 30 minutes ago but had lost track of time in the desert and needed a bit of a pit stop. Walking up with a guilty look on his face he would yell. "OI! Master genkumaru!" Raising his hand up to wave at the older man. The same hand would come down to his messy red hair and begin to rub the back of his head as he would explain why he had been so late. "Sorry sir.... when its too hot I've gotta eat a lot more than usual. Made a few pit stops for the munchies.." He would give off a laugh and wait for the man's reply after so he would inquire on the mission they were sent out to complete. "So.. what are we fighting today?"

The boy was honest and sincere which made his apology acceptable and even entertaining to an extent. Of course he needed to eat the Akimichi burned up calories like it was water in the desert. Honestly he imagined that the sheer fact that he was well muscled like himself probably made it even worse! Chuckling he would respond to his pupil as he walked towards the forests edge, "I am not sure to be honest, It may be a reptile? Whatever it is can move through the earth possibly. Keep a lookout just in case something happens.", he would venture in a good thirty meters before coming to a clearing in the forest, several remains of dead livestock and men littering the area, as well as a giant molted skin remnant of some type of gigantic snake. Turning to look at Maxximus he would use silent hand seals to signal to be quiet and alert. In doing so he would Set himself into a combat stance and activate the Chidori and Chidori Nagashi techniques on himself.

Reptiles... If it had been one thing in the world that the young akimichi had hated it would be most reptilian beast. Sure some people had made friends with most of these beast and were even able to summon different types of them, but that did not excuse how gross and slimy that had been. As he would make a face of disgust at the mention of the beast he would sigh. Following after Genkumaru as he would venture deeper into the woods ahead. Suddenly the boy would be startled by the slithering of the smaller version of a snake. He would yelp a bit and then look toward genkumaru with an embarrassed face. "Sorry... Im not a fan..." he would utter quickly as he would try and catch up with his master. It would not take them long to make it 30 meters deep as something disturbing would be shown to the boy.

A large molted snake skin. His nose would flare as he looked at this, ignoring the rest of the scene that was littered with dead ninja and their spilt blood. It was starting to be a nightmare come true for the young Akimichi. "umm..." He would utter before seeing the signs to stay quiet. Were they getting closer? was it right next to them? The thoughts would make his body quiver in fear as if he had something crawling under his skin. 'Fine ill face this fear....' He would think to himself as he continued behind Genkumaru on the search for their target.

As his pupil obliged he closed his eyes and crouched low, placing his palm on the ground beneath them. He was feeling for tremors, something that the previous victims had described as a shake in the ground just before whatever it was, struck the caravans. Clearly they both knew know that it must be some sort of gigantic snake, possibly a spire snake, but maybe something completely different. Within moments he could feel it, the ground began to shake rhythmically and it grew more vibrant as the moments went on, something was oj it's way to meet them, their presence now known to the dangerous beast.

Pointing to a nearby tree he would run towards it and stuck to it horizontally with his feet before making some handseal and causing a clone of himself to pop up on the ground and rush forward, moving into their old space. Hopefully Maxximus had joined him or found hi own tree in time, as within moments of evacuating and placing the decoy, the ground quakes and what emerged was a towering snake of roughly 12 meters in length that had a stark white underbelly with mottled purple and grey skin, its face particularly unremarkable except for its horned snout and large fangs that protruded below its lower jaw with its mouth closed.

It would rear its head backwards for but a moment before it unhinged its jaw and swallowed the clone whole with terrifying speed. Finally taking notice of them it would launch it self like a striking cobra at Gen fangs first. However, as it went to strike the clone must have hit its stomach acid as a volatile explosion was heard and a slight fire bound effect came from the snakes mouth, it falling out of the air and coiling tightly from pain. Gen would leap into the air and come down with an Axe kick on the beasts skull, further paralyzing it for a moment thanks to the Nagashi field, "Now is the time Maxxi! Strike!", He knew the beast probably wouldn't be stunned for long, and that was fine, all he needed was a chance for his pupil and him to get out of this alive and well.

As Maxximus would follow behind Genkumaru he would notice the man stop. His eyebrow raising as the man would bend down and feel the ground around the snake's shredded skin,. This had been one of the grossest things he hated about snakes and other reptiles. Their skin. As he would notice the rumbling of the ground and the movements of his mentor, maxx would do the same as he would jump to the top of a tree and wait for the beast to arrive. Suddenly as it would appear in all its glory and shine with the help of the sky. Its grey and purple scales would send shivers down the boys spine as he studied it. "Face...your...fears.." He would utter to himsself on a constant as he watched the beast attack the clone of genkumaru. Dust pushing into the air as the beast would hit the ground in pain. Genkumaru would use this chance to cripple the beast even more as it would lay on the ground in pain.

Maxxi's breathing would grow as he watched the fight. He didn't want to touch the scales and the sliminess of this beast, but he didn't want to let his teacher down by sitting back and letting him do all the work. As he would give a sigh he would jump into the air and yell, "Sensei! GET OUT OF THE WAY!" He would scream hoping his sensei would move as the mans body would grow greatly in size. "SUPER EXPANSION JUTSU" He scream as his size would double, no triple, no he would grow five times bigger than his normal size almost matching the beast in length. As he would come flying back down to the ground on top of the beast he would use the power of gravity to deal even more damage to the beast. Taking only a second to recover from the fall and looking down at the snake that seemed to be crushed into the ground in a somewhat funny pattern. It would only take a few seconds for the large snake to start to burrow back underground, but maxx would not let him get too deep as he would reach down and grab the back half of the snakes body and begin to swing it against the trees, he was hoping genkumaru wasn't too close as he would do a constant spin hitting the snake's head agaisnt multiple trees before throwing it into the forest. "gross gross gross" He would say as he shook his hands as if he was trying to get the thought of the snake's sliminess out of his mind and off of his body.

He had called out for Maxxi to do something, and so when he had asked him to get out of the way, he obliged without a second thought as he vaulted off and away into the forest. Rolling through some bushes and the deceased victims, he was quite dirty once he righted himself and was able to stand, only to turn around and see exactly what it was the Maxxi had warned him off. His Pupil had become gigantic! His absolutely massive form was one that rivaled the very creature he was grappling. the spinning technique that he performed, bashing the snakes skull and body against the trees around him proofed to be very effective as the snake was killed after the third rotation, its body broken and battered from the sheer assault that Maxxi laid upon it.

Getting back up to where Maxxi was, he would look up to him and shoot him a thumbs up and a smile, "The Akimichi techniques will always amaze me! Once again Maxxi you prove your worth my boy!", Gen would move to lean against a tree and lay down as he closed his eyes, basking in the sunlight above. He had a look of pure happiness plastered on his face now, as Maxxi was the first junior of his that he no longer felt he needed to protect while fighting. He really had found his successor!

The battle had seemed to end as the snake would not make another move. His body laid there dead with comical X's in its eyes and its tongue sticking out. Maxx's heart would beat fast as he would begin to shrink. He was relieved that the fight was over. As he would begin to shrink in size he would slowly begin to kneel where the battle had started. His knees hitting the ground and his hands clasping together he would begin to pray for the ninja and the snake that had died on this field. "Yo sun god.... I barely speak to you... but my ma constantly tells me i should. I know you're there. So i ask that you guide these lost souls to their next life. And may it be filled with as much adventure as their hearts can hold." He would clap his hands twice and then stand up to look for his teacher. Remembering the thumbs up he would give him while he was in his larger form. "Oh there you are.." Maxxie would say as he would take steps to his teacher. His body would seem to give out on him a bit, it had been odd using a jutsu of that caliber and not being extremely tired after doing so. As he would stumble a bit he would fall on to one knee once more.

As his knee would hit the ground he would look to see a headband there. Two headbands to be exact would be stacked on top of one another. They would be in horrible conditions as they had scratches and rips all along them. The two headbands would be from the moon and the sun. As Maxxie would look upon them he would remember his Uncle and his aunt. They were two strong ninja both from opposing villages but had found a n untimely demise. He would begin to breath harder as he remembered their smiles. Picking up the two headbands and letting a few tears fall from his eyes and on to the dusty headbands. "rest in peace and love." He would say before he would lay the headbands back on the ground and sigh. Raising his hands up to wipe off his face and then making his way out of the small valley to his teacher. As he would lay next to him he would give off a sigh. Laughing a big he looked over to the man with his puffy eyes and say, "I don't like snakes..." The day would end with the death of a snake and the redemption of many lost souls. This had been one of the few reasons Maxxie had decided to become a ninja, he wanted to set the hearts free of the people in the world. To erase fear from their minds and fill it with hope. Hope for tomorrow and hope for living. He would turn back to look at the bright sky as the clouds would seem to float away allowing the beams of the sun to shine brightly on the two sun ninja. It would almost feel like they were relaxing at home. His eyes would close and his mind would begin to drift into sleep. Another of his favorite activities. At this point he was too tired from fighting the large snake to make a trip back home and would try and regain some energy from a brisk nap. Hoping that if his teacher would leave he would awaken him first. As he would begin to snore loud enough for the other animals in the forest to hear.

It had sure been a day of struggle, triumph and training. Both he and his pupil would have learned some valuable lessons today, for one that Maxxi was capable, and for the other that even in the face for your fears, sometimes you have to rise up and combat them for others sake. How could he refuse this boy ever again? He was truly a good student and clearly would hold the flame for another generation after Gen was gone. One final smile would grace his lips before he fell asleep in the sunlight, his pupil by his side as they napped. There was no fear or danger as this had been the snakes home for so long that practically everything avoided the area like the plague.

He had awoken first and stretched his back out as it seemed it was getting near sunset, the purples, oranges and yellows setting over the top of the trees. Lifting up Maxxi, he would carry the lad piggy back style back to the village. He stopped at the Donburi carts near the village entrance and procured a Don for himself and four for Maxxi knowing he would need to eat when he awoke. Soon he was off again and to the Akimichi compound to which he silenced an attendant when he saw them and mouthed sleeping to her. She would lead him to Maxxi's room, which is where he would set the boy down in his bed, before leaving the food and a small note - "Stay strong and stand above the fears that grip our hearts." With that he would be off and away to his estate to train until the wee hours of the morning.
