Personality: Xihe comes across as someone who is comfortable in their own skin. His actions are always measured and controlled, approaching most situations with a cool, easy-going air about him. He is rather laid-back, not being bothered b much, which makes it easy for him to socialize with others. When he does, he comes across as mature, polite and kind, and makes sure to come across as a person others are able to talk to without fear of judgement. Or at least appear sympathetic enough to their plight for them to talk to him.
Zi is also rather playful, poking fun at those around him, giving people nicknames, playing games or pulling pranks. He is never one to let a good joke or sarcastic remark slide by without taking the opportunity to capitalize on it. He is the kind of person that slowly warms up to you and, once friendly with, is nearly impossible to turn away or become angered towards.
While he can be described as "chill", he also knows when situations call for the utmost seriousness, and does his most to help anyone he can in any way he can. He affords the correct respect to those of a higher rank or standing than himself, and will go out of his way to help those who are less capable than he (such as civilians), taking on an almost chivalrous quality in how he goes about it.

History: Xihe's parents were poor villagers, living on the outskirts of the Moon Village in a little farming town that was just barely making ends meet. They were farmers, and would bring their spares produce and wares into town to sell when they could. But Xihe could remember what it was like to go to bed with an empty belly and eyes full of tears. His parents would feed him first, as he was their life, but even then there wasn't always enough.
It was a life Xihe knew, but one he grew to resent, so he escaped into stories and legends his parents would tell him. He was told of great shinobi and samurai of ages past, ones that changed the world and made their mark. He couldn't help but think they probably had never gone hungry in their lives.
On a strange whim, Xihe picked up a blade, or rather the closest approximation that he could find on his farm: a gardening hoe, and began to practice with it as though he were a ninja. His parents couldn't know the difference between a child without skill and one that had the makings of a great shinobi, but luckily Xihe was happened upon by a kunoichi of the village as he was practicing one day.
The kunoichi, Suzume, offered to take him into the village and teach him the ways of the shinobi, and in return would pay the couple enough to help them feed themselves and keep their farm above water. Though his parents lamented the choice, Xihe insisted, wanting to no longer be a burden to them but also desiring to make his mark on the world as a shinobi.
He left his parent's home behind and moved into the village proper under the watchful eye of Suzume. She had seen within him an innate talent for swordsmanship, which she helped him hone into a deadly weapon with which he was able to graduate the academy without much issue.
In the years since his graduation, his father passed away from a silent sickness, which fueled an even deeper fire within Xihe. He wanted to be strong not just for the favor it would bring to his name, but also the pride he felt it would bring to his father's.
