Beware Sneks (Group Mission)

Mission Details:

There had been a lot of mission to go out and hunt down animals but there weren't many that had been known to wipe out full caravans with relative ease. A beast capable of doing that could only be one of few things, though the reports had made it clear what monster was behind this; a Spire Viper! Sojiro had never actually seen one in person but he had done enough research to know what the creature was and how it worked on a basic level. The best way to try and kill the snake was to catch it while it was in the act, away from its nest and in the open. Because of that, the plan had become simple enough, wait for a small caravan to start traveling and tag along with them as protection. The caravan in question had three carts, each pulled by two horses, and two of them were used for carrying goods. The middle carriage had a few people inside of it, though everyone seemed to be in high hopes for the most part, seeing that they knew they had the protection of two strong shinobi. As they traveled through the Spire Mountains, it would only be a matter of time before the beast would come forth.

Sojiro had come dressed within his normal attire, a pair of black pants with a matching Flak Jacket. Keeping back his hair and sweat out of his eyes was his red bandana, which bore the symbol of his village on it. The man was resting on his back and essentially sunbathing, his Flak Jacket actually laying next to him on top of the leading wagon. The warm feeling of the sun was something that he would never get enough of, no matter how much time passed. Regardless, with the casual sounds of chatter and travel surrounding them, things seemed to be going well for the two shinobi and their caravan... For now.

He was thrilled to be trusted with more dangerous tasks from the village as of late, he and Sojiro going out on a few such missions now. His skill and resolve increasing with each outing as they went. When Sojiro and him were sent a messenger hawk at the estate that morning, they both seemed to have an immediate resolve to fight the Spire Viper! it was a formidable foe and would be good training for them as they were getting stronger each day. Nothing was as impressive to him as when they fought in tandem. His perfect partner for the legendary lariat technique as well, as they were near perfect for their strength matching when it came to the double lariat. A match that is precious to practitioners of the move. Their brotherhood seemed almost predestined at times, and Gen was glad he had met the man.

They had hooked up with a caravan heading out near the sightings in a clandestine manner, offering their services as protection in exchange for a free ride. Relaxing on the wagon with Sojiro he too was splayed out bathing in the sun like some roided out house cat. The warmth of the sun feeling so pleasing on his form. His eyes closed he spoke to Soji, "Soj, ever wonder what its like to not be a Ninja? To live a life like these people?", with everything that had happened to them as of late his mind had begun to think about what normal life could be like or mean. to be able to live your life only worrying about the next day and how to feed yourself. No more fighting, nor more panic or worry. To be able to love and love hard, and have all the blessings and offerings of a life like that. Things that Ninja had to be weary off. As you could lose your other half at a moments notice. Such were the fascinations of a child solider, wishing for things that seemed so unattainable to him now.

Sojiro had been thinking about some type of new concoction to make, thinking about how he could apply it for normal usage and sell it to people. He needed more things on his shelves so that he could start making a profit, at least when it came to Shinobi. The way that things had been going so far, the civilians of the village would be more than enough to make sure Sojiro would be set for life; and all he needed to do was offer cheaper wages than the hospitals did. There was no reason to charge people their life savings to, well, save their lives. That type of thinking was counterproductive and Sojiro hadn't really gotten into the business to make money... Not that he did it to help people, exactly. This was just the job that he thought was meant for him. Of course, when Genkumaru had asked him about becoming a normal shinobi, his brain would wander for a second.

There was something about the idea of living his life from day to day, like a normal person, that... Rubbed him the wrong way. Where most people would find peace in the idea of not being murdered, not being chased down, or not having their lives on the line... "I can't say that I have given it much thought, actually. But, thinking about it, it just sounds like a life of complacency. I mean, just because they aren't a part of it, it doesn't stop the shinobi world from happening around them." Sojiro would slowly move to sit up but just a bit, lifting his chest and leaning on his elbows so that he could see Genku, "I'm sure it is the life for some people. But, their lives are just my side job. I couldn't imagine doing it all the time." It was clear that Sojiro wasn't looking at it from an emotional aspect like Gen, the bestial male never having many quarrels or issues with the life of a shinobi. As far as he was concerned, he got to do what he wanted so long as he listened to the village here and there. The civilians, normal people, didn't have that kind of right. And maybe that was wrong but it didn't matter to Sojiro.

He would move to lay back down on his back, as if dropping that part of the conversation before, after a few moments of silence he would ask, "Why? Do you think about it often, Gen?"

He just listened to Sojiro, letting his answer wash over him. He was right, in the deepest part of his life he knew that Sojiro was right. However, the nagging feeling that if their lives were different, perhaps he could pursue whom he wanted to and live a life full of love and simplicity was enticing. His current life was one of strife, hardship, sadness, and had no future that was perfect or without pain in the distance. Gen knew this and yet also knew that he had helped so many lives since he returned to the Shinobi life and he was meant for this role, even if he didn't want it all the time. He had titled himself as the Shield and his brother was the Sword, together they had a duty to each other and the village and that would never change.

Smirking for the first time in days he chuckled softly before answering Sojiro, "Have I thought about it? All the time. If you remember I feared for everyone else when I was younger, that my power would become uncontrollable and I would hurt everyone around me. That is probably the first time I thought about it Soj. Then I met Kanna... My heart yearns for the day that she could both accept me and we could be together just like the normal people in the village. That is something that will never happen, and even if it does, it wont be a fairy tale. We are both Shinobi and at a moments notice we could lose our lives...", pausing for a moment he inhaled deeply and exhaled, crossing his arms behind his head.

Beginning to speak again he seemed defeated or complacent with his words, "You are right though Soj. Their lives are the epitome of complacency and given time I would grow bored not being able to do that with which I was meant to. I am a living weapon and I don't have the luxury to be a simple merchant. Not to mention that if I couldn't help people I would grow restless. Also if I didn't use my explosions would it just build up inside of me until one day I detonate and take out half the village? That sounds like nothing is worth the risk comparatively. ", it was all hypothetical, but since he developed Bakuton he hadn't gone a day with out even a small explosion. What would happen if he never did it again?

Sojiro would listen to Genkumaru as he started to speak, laying there and letting his eyes watch the clouds as they passed by overhead. He could see where the man was coming from, Sojiro didn't have anything to worry about in that regard. Well, when he had first arrived in the village and was trying to adjust to being a 'person' he had been prone to attacking people. Thankfully he hadn't killed anyone but he had come close a few times but the thought of changing who he was had never crossed his mind. He knew that Genkumaru had always been afraid of his power, something that Sojiro hadn't personally understood, but it wasn't something that he judged his good friend for. Everyone had their fears and that was never something he'd judge Genkumaru for, "You and that woman..." He muttered under his breath in a teasing grumble, a grin on his lips.

And then Genkumaru spoke, almost defeatedly, about how Sojiro was right. He listened to the downtrodden way that his friend spoke, furrowing his brows as he did. As much as Gen tried to say that this life would be fine for him, there was something in his gut that told him his friend was lying. The male sighed heavily at that but, it was the ending that had gotten his attention the most. Even all this time, Genkumaru was still worried that he couldn't control his own Kekkei Genkai and Sojiro just wanted to tell him that was ridiculous. Sojiro was convinced that a lot of the man's problem was tied to his own subconscious, that perhaps there would be a way to power through. But, if this was actually something with his genetic code... Sojiro would move to slowly sit up, pulling his legs closer together and crossing them underneath him. He'd reach a hand out so that he could pat Gen's leg, "Don't you worry, I'll help you find a way to cure you of random explosions. We'll get you that normal, boring life somehow. Yeah?" He would ask with a grin and a brow raised, patting the man's leg a few more times but this time as a motion for him to get up.

"I think I'm getting something on my nose, it shouldn't be too much longer." It was true, there was something that smelt like decaying corpses and a series of poisons. Sojiro could only assume that it was actually the breath of the large Viper that they were after, otherwise they were going to have bigger problems on their hands. The man would stay on the top of the cart while relaxing with Gen, moving to rest his hands in his lap as they moved. He would slowly roll his shoulders in the process and let his ruby hues casually glance around the area. He wasn't going to act like he was alert, there was always the chance that the people would see that and start to panic or worry. And there was no need for that, not yet, at least.

He just listened to him and grunted at the mention of Kannagi. Why did he even bother at all? He should be focusing on his goals more then anyone else anyways. How else would he be a complete person on his own? This dual world life he had tried to manifest was quickly becoming more work then he had asked for and was almost too much for him at times. Thumbing the sun symbol on his headband gently he thought long and hard about his position and status for now. Was be happy being as he was and in his current position? For some reason this conversation was causing him to feel things he didn't want too.

Sitting upright he held his back to Sojiro as he started centering himself for what was to come next. He needed to be absolutely ready for what happened next. Taking deep breaths and focusing on opening the flood gates of his explosive power in a slow buildup as had become the mental image he had learned to form, he would crack his neck and lean his head backwards. He was ready and willing now to do what must be done, "Just give the signal.", he would open his eyes and look forward now, ready to confront the object of their mission.

They were traveling upwards a particularly large spire, which would eventually lead down on another winding trail and towards safety. Of course, before they would be able to reach the top, Sojiro's nose had officially picked up on something and he was ready to strike out. In that moment, there was something that sounded through the air that sounded like one hundred different snakes coming together to form a rallying cry. Suddenly, there was the sound of earth moving from above and a part of the spire started to move... Except that it wasn't part of the spire, some large creature had seemingly made itself at home there and was uncoiling as the caravan was starting to draw closer. As it unhinged itself from the rocks, the earth made noises of protest as several rocks began to fall downwards towards them.

"We can't let these rocks get them, I'll get the ones on this side, you get that side." Sojiro said, though it was more like stating the obvious as the rain of rocks... Well, more like rain of boulders started to come down. The man would move into a standing position as the people started to scream in panic but, he would call forth a booming voice of authority as he spoke, "KEEP DRIVING, IF YOU STOP, YOU DIE!" And with that, the people let out shrieks but none of the carriages would stop. Sojiro would summon chakra to his feet before launching himself into the air, landing on the side of the mountain and running up it so that he could meet them.

Sojiro would jump from the wall and onto the largest boulder near him, his feet pressing against it as he adjusted his momentum so that he could essentially launch the rocks with his feet. The boulder would disappear into the distance in that moment and Sojiro would twist himself in the air as another boulder came nearby. He would dig his fingers into the boulder, spinning himself in the air using it's weight before letting it go and using the motion to launch it into another. The two boulders would have some rocks rain down on the caravans but not enough big enough to actually damage something.

He would quickly rise to attention from the sounds and the rush of falling rocks, hearing Sojiros words of command he spoke quickly before leaping if and activating the explosion palm technique to give himself flight, "Yosh!", rocketing towards a good shooting gallery spot in the sky he would hover in place as he pointed his hands into gun shapes at the various debris and just started blasting. Shooting shot after shot at the rocks destroying them in such a way that they became dust or were knocked far off course.

He would purposefully position himself so that Sojiro could jump onto him while he careened through the air boulder after boulder. Looking high into sky at the earthen spire they were guiding the caravan along he saw it. It was a gigantic reptilian and was fearsome in all of it's being. A single large golden red iris peered down from below as it turned its head towards them, a second iris coming into view. It would open its maw and hiss letting out a visceral cry like that of a monster from a Kaijuu film, phlegm flying off into the valley below.

The panic caused from its arrival into view spurned the horses on faster in panic as they had begun to slip far ahead of Sojiro and Gen, which was fine as they were here to slay the beast. Speaking quickly towards his brother he shouted, "If you can distract him, I can get you up there and then start gathering energy for my technique! I will need a good long minute though Sojiro!", if his brother went along with his plan and clambered on he would fly him up towards the serpents head so that he could jump onto the beast and start attacking, all the while using evasive flying maneuvers to dart around the beast.

Sojiro had easily destroyed the boulders that were on his side and heard the explosion of Genkumaru moving through the air, as well as handing some over there. As he called out, Sojiro wasted no time pressing his feet against another boulder and shoving his full weight against it so that he could fly through the air at Genkumaru. His right hand would grab onto his brother's shoulder, pulling him onto his back with his feet pressed against the center of it. His left hand would be cocked back and ready as they would fly through the air and up towards the giant creature, "This thing is waaaaaaayyyyyy bigger than I thought it was going to be." It wasn't like it scared him or even worried him, but he couldn't deny that he was expecting it to be bigger. Sojiro now understood why they were named after spires, not because they lived in the same area but because they rivaled some in size!

"You can count on me, Gen, bring me in!" And with that, they would start to fly up closer as more rocks came towards them but the carriages seemed to disappear into the distance. The snake was smart, knowing that Sojiro and Genkumaru were the threat and not the caravan. As they got closer, it began to move it's body as though it was going to strike out and Sojiro pressed his feet against his brother's back firmly, "Here we go!" And with that, he would launch himself off of Gen's back with as much strength that he could gather, summoning wind around his arms and legs as he began to tunnel through the air. The powerful technique called the winds to swirl around him and cause rocks to blast off into the distance, coming to meet the side of the snake's jaw as it tried to strike out at him. The head of the beast would recoil backward, Sojiro's jutsu ending and leaving him seemingly exposed for a moment as the creature would use its tail to try and strike the man out of the air.

As it made contact, there was the sound of it hitting but the man didn't go flying but would seemingly disappear for that moment. He had extended his nails and called chakra to several parts of his body at the last moment, allowing him to dig into the hide of the creature and take the blow as it tried to swing him to the side. Genkumaru would see his brother running up the side of the snake a moment later, dragging his claws along the skin and causing it to rear its head at him again.
