Appearance: The Hoshigaki have three distinct traits that make them easy to spot: Their bizarre skin pigmentations that range from grey to dark blue to orange, etc., much like sharks; More and sharper teeth than an average Human being that can easily take chunks of many different objects; Finally, at least two sets of gills usually found slightly above the cheeks or on the sides of the neck.
Abilities:
- Gills that allow them to swim underwater without having to breath for an indefinite amount of time. In fact, some are even used to living in large bodies of water.
- Clear vision underwater.
- Teeth so sharp that they can puncture someone or something with force similar to a kunai.
- Electroception, which is the ability to detect electrical currents in the water. Movement by any living creature in the water create small electrical currents, essentially allowing the Hoshigaki to detect people in the ocean, lakes, etc. This ability only allows them to sense other things within a certain range based on their rank:
D-Rank: 10 Meters
C-Rank: 20 Meters
B-Rank: 30 Meters
A-Rank: 40 Meters
S-Rank: 50 Meters
Weakness:
- Since the Hoshigaki also use their gills to breath, the forceful closing of both sets would be just like someone holding your nose and mouth to cause asphyxiation, whether on land or water.
- Much like actual sharks, the Hoshigaki are subject to an intense bloodlust that acts up whenever someone around them has suffered an injury that results in blood being leaked from their bodies. As a result, they go into a rage that has them causing as much mayhem as possible. It is for this reason that the Hoshigaki are trained from childhood to resist this urge as best they can, most of them being held back from even heading into the academy until they can gain steady control.
- Lightning Release jutsu used in the water anywhere near a Hoshigaki’s Electroception range would disrupt that sense, causing it to not work up until the post after the jutsu is done being used.
