The air was dry and arid, the clouds in the sky thickening around him, a darkening gray, the day had quickly turned to night and dusk had fallen. A storm was brewing at the far end of the jagged mountain tops behind Kensei as he made his way through the woods alongside the road. He stuck close to the pavement incase he'd run into a familiar traveller in the road, or at the very least some mild entertaining along the way. It was a colder day than most, especially on this end of the middle grounds, where the heat of the desert still trickled into the forested roads ahead. The night air was refreshing to the robed Shinobi, with his arms tucked inside against his torso, the cloaks sleeves flapping in the wind as he skipped across the tree branches on his way.
He would need to pick up his speed, he noted, if he wanted to catch up to Sojiro his penchant for lateness getting the best of him here. He hoped his partner had began their investigation without him, leaving him more time to enjoy the scene around him, the midnight gloom a siren whispering to him to run free. As it itched closer to his destination he began humming his favorite childhood chime as the temperature around him began dropping significantly.

He closed his eyes as he pictured himself climbing the ice tundras within the wilderness uninhabited lands far north. And while his mission today would not bring him any closer to the places of his childhood, it brought him closer to the memories of those lost.
