    SG Regulations | Role-Play Rules

    Tags and Topics
Here on SG we use Tags to label our topics based on the content that is expected to be in that topic. These tags define the roles and rules of what can take place, and must be followed. If a topic has a certain tag, that topic is expected to follow the rules and guidelines for that tag. At any point the tag of the topic can be changed if the content has shifted. The tags must follow the posting rules of the board they are located in. For example if a board does not allow for private topics to be posted, then regardless of if the topic is meant to be private or not, you can not use the tag.

    • (Open)- The Open tag indicates that the topic is open to any member that is allowed to post in the area of the topic. This tag allows any member to join it, regardless of who they my be or what their intentions are. If you wish to set a certain number of allowed members, you can add a number in the bracket, like (open-3). This indicates that the topic is open until the listed amount of allowed members has been reached, then it becomes a private topic. If a topic is left tag-less it is considered to be open.

    • (Private)- The Private tag indicates that the topic is restricted to the named participants. If the Private tag is used, it must have the names of allowed characters in the brackets, giving those members permission to post in that topic. An open tag can be changed at any point to a private tag to prevent further members from joining the topic. A member is only allowed to be in one [Private] topic at a time, except for the situation where an open topic turns into a private one.

    • (Closed)- The Closed tag indicates that the topic is finished or has been completed. Whatever the tag was previous, it can be changed to closed to show members that this topic is now over and no further posting in it will take place. This is used to archive topics and indicate that it is a dead topic.

    • (Past)- The Past tag is used to indicate that the topic took place in the past, prior to the current timeline of events. The outcome of the topic has already been determined and it is mainly used to fill in holes or tell a story. A topic with this tag can not override something currently taken place and is not able to rewrite site history.

    • (NF)- The NF, or no fighting tag, is used when the topic is meant to be a social one, devoid of any combat or conflict. This topic is meant to purely be for social encounters and character building. The tag can change to a combat tag if all participating members agree to change the tag.

    • (NK)- The NK, or no killing tag, is used when combat is allowed to take place but it is either a friendly spar or just a casual fight. The fight can not end in death and regardless of what takes place in the fight, all involved members will be considered healed and healthy once the topic is over. This tag can change to a DE tag if all involved members agree to it.

    • (DE)- The DE, or death enabled, tag is used when combat is allowed and any character involved runs the risk of being killed or losing their character. This tag can only be used if all participating members have agreed to it. (Joining an already established DE topic is agreeing to it.)

    • (Plot/Event)- The Plot or Event tag is used to indicate that a topic is apart of a plot or event based activity. If the topic pertains to a certain story line or is needed to continue site plot, the tag can be used to signify that. These tags are not to be used on your own, and are only used if tagging a plot or event related topic.

    • (Mission/Quest/Clash)- These tags are only used when identifying one of the named events, whether it is a mission, a quest or a clash. This are all explained in the mission guide, however the topic that uses one of these tags must follow the rules and guides of the tag it is using.

    Danger Zones
Each role play area of the site will be marked with one of three Danger Levels. These Danger Levels will dictate what kind of topics are allowed to take place within those zones and what rules must be followed in regard to combat and killing. These zones are set based on the types of environments are involved, and must be obeyed. Danger Levels can change based on the events that take place, making one location safer or more hostile. These changes are only made by staff however, and unless other wise stated must be followed. There may be a few exceptions where the danger level is ignored, like in the case of a war or a missing ninja attack.

    • Low Danger Level: Indicates an area of the world that is relatively safe and can be role played in without fear. Combat in these zones is to be considered friendly and must be agreed upon by all participating members. All topics in this zone are considered NK (No Killing) with very few exceptions being made at the discretion of staff.

    • Medium Danger Level: Indicates an unsafe area of the world where violence and fights are more common. While these areas should be considered dangerous, there is still enough resources to ensure someone can survive. Fights in these zones can break out without consent, and the private tag is no longer allowed to be used. All topics in this zone are considered NK (No Killing) with very few exceptions being made at the discretion of staff. However the NF, or no fighting tag is not allowed to be used. If someone reaches 0 HP in these zones they are considered knocked out and returned somewhere safely to be healed.

    • High Danger Level:Indicates that the area is extremely dangerous and must be avoided if possible. Not only is the Private Tag disabled but death is turned on, and any character that reaches 0 HP is considered dead. All topics posted in these zones are considered DE (Death Enabled) and can not use either of the NK, or NF tags.

    Combat Profile/Load out:
When you are creating a post, whether it is a social post or a combat related post, you must always have a link to your combat profile either in your signature or posted at the bottom of the post. A load out is what items your character currently has on them in any given topic. You are required to keep a list of what items you have on you and their status listed at the bottom of your post. If you have projectiles you must keep a count of how much ammo you have currently, and if you are wearing armor you must have its strike status listed as well.

    Role play Styles and God-Modding:

-Vague Manipulation: In this style, the role-player will take advantage of their opponent's lack of detail in order to direct the course of battle. This is restricted to combat RP and may not be used for the purposes of trolling your opponent, such as dictating their appearance or having them arrive to the fight in the nude. An example of Vague Manipulation would be if your opponent said something along the lines of: 'Naruto threw his fist at Sasuke' and you replied with: 'Sasuke stepped to the left, Naruto's right fist missing his head by an inch'. In this case, Sasuke was able to dictate which fist Naruto used, as well as where his punch was aimed. This is because Naruto had the opportunity to specify both in his own post, but failed to do so, leaving an opening for Sasuke to take advantage of. While this style of role play will be accepted here on SG, we ask that you use logic and be polite when using it. If it is abused or mistreated, battle mods will step in.

-Code Role-Play: In this style, the role-player will provide just enough detail to signify the existence of an attack or action, without stating so in clear words. An example would be: 'Black flames appeared from Itachi's eyes, after a stream of blood.' rather than 'Blood streamed from Itachi's eyes as he activated Amaterasu, black flames shooting at his opponent.' This style is not accepted on SG as it is vague and does not provide enough detail for the opponent to have an understanding of what is taking place. While you do not need to give every detail and weakness in your post, there must be enough so anyone reading can understand what is going on. If a post is not clear enough battle mods may ask you to repost with more detail.

-Filler Role-Play: The role-player will load their post with tons of frivolous and irrelevant details with the intention of masking their actions and making it more difficult for their opponent to decipher what is going on without reading through block after block of text. It is perfectly fine to be as detailed as you wish, so long as it pertains to relevant subjects. If you take two paragraphs to describe your appearance or the scenery, you are within guidelines. However, if you spend two paragraphs talking about the old lady fifty feet away who's petting her cat, you will be asked to gut your post until it's found to be acceptable by staff. This will only be enforced if a participant in the topic requests you reduce your post, you refuse, and they file a complaint with staff. This is not a rule against long posts, as it has to be obvious that you're including unnecessary details just to lengthen your post to abnormal degrees. This style of role play is not allowed and if it is found that you are loading your post with pointless information to make it hard to follow or read, a battle mod will step in.

-God-Modding: God-Modding includes a variety of actions that would be considered impossible for your character, such as dodging every attack (avoiding all damage unscathed, especially when your opponent is of equal or greater rank) or using a technique, item or ability that your character should not even possess (you may only use something if it's on your Characer Sheet and has been approved by at least one member of staff). It can also take the form of auto-hitting, which is when you make your attack an absolute hit without giving your opponent the chance to avoid it. While we all want our characters to be the best, we ask that all members keep in mind, this is a role playing community where everyone is entitled to enjoy their character. No one character is allowed to land every attack, dodge every ability and win every fight. If you are found to be playing in this manner, staff may intervene.

-Meta-Gaming: Meta-Gaming is far simpler to understand. It is when your character makes use of information that you've acquired OOC in an IC capacity. If your character has no means of knowing of something, then it is imperative that you not give them that knowledge. It will be considered meta-gaming and it will be treated in the same regard as God-Modding. All actions derived from the violation will be rendered null, meaning that if you meta-gamed in order to defend against an attack, your defense will be voided and the attack will land. It does not matter if you as a person are aware of the knowledge, if your character has

    Character Rules:

    • Character Limit: Upon registering you are allowed up to TWO different characters. Once both of these character slots have been used, approved and proven to be active, staff can allow you extra character slots. In order to gain an extra character slot, you must have two weeks of proven activity with any currently created characters. The overall character limit is Five.

    • Canon Characters: SG is an AU rp, so canon characters from the source material are not allowed to be used. You can not create them, use them in your history or refer to them in any way. If you wish to use the appearance or image of a canon character to represent your own, you may, however that is the only connection we will allow to the source material.

    • Altering Applications: Once your character has been approved, you have two real life weeks to change any aspect of the character, including looks, elements or specialties. If you want something changed you may file for a staff member to alter it. However after those two weeks you are not allowed to change anything about your character, unless it is something that has changed IC.

    • New Characters:Every character, regardless of who it is being created by, will start out at the base available rank. Once a new character is created it is required to start off as a C-rank in one of the available villages or positions. No exceptions will be made for anyone. If you retire or choose to remake a character, you will lose all progress for that character, and will have to create a brand new C-Rank. However if your character is killed by IC means, you will get a character package to assist you in creating a new character.

    • Character Interactions: You are allowed to create characters that belong to the same faction, such as villages or organizations, however you are not allowed to interact with yourself, meaning you can not be in the same topic with one character as another one of your characters. The only exception will be event or plot topics. While you can be in the same plot topic as your other characters, they are not allowed to communicate or interact with each other within that topic. If there is a rare situation where your characters must interact, a member of staff can be asked to operate one of the characters.

    Posting Rules:

    • Quality Posting: While long, detailed post can be exciting to read, here on SG we care more about the quality of a post than how big or full of words it is. While there are no hard rules on how long a post should be or what it should look like, we do ask that you remain courteous when making a post, and try to keep the other members in mind. We ask that a post be atleast 200 words long, this is not very hard to do and helps members keep the topic going with out getting stale or dying out. If the topic is slowing down and you are running out of ideas, maybe it is time to end the topic. In addition we ask that all of your post be clean, clear and organized. Make them as easy to read as you can.

    • Double Posting: Double posting counts as posting inside of an in-character thread directly after one of your own posts. It can be in any amount from two and up, and is not allowed on the site. If you need to make a correction to your post or wish to change something regarding what is going on you can simply click the Edit button on your post and change it until it suits what you need. Beyond that there is no need for double posting.

    • Posting Order: A posting order is the line up of when a member is allowed to post in a given topic, and is normally created naturally as people join the topic. Once a posting order is established it must be followed for the duration of the topic, only changing as new members join or members leave the topic. If a topic has more than two members in it, and someone has not posted for more than a week, the other participants are allowed to skip that person in the posting order. That person can then rejoin at anytime to continue posting. This can only occur if the topic is social or has no combat involved.

    • Dead Topics: A dead topic normally occurs when one of the members goes inactive or those involved have yet to reply over a long period of time. If a topic has gone weeks without a post, all remaining active members can choose to close the topic or continue without the missing person if it is a topic of three or more. A dead topic can be reopened at a later date if all participants wish to reopen it. If not the topic will be marked closed.

    • 72 hour rule: When it comes to combat related topics and posting time limit can be used to ensure that the topic continues with out any long periods of time between post. The 72 hour rules gives each participating member exactly 72 hours after the last post to make their reply, as long as they are still engaged in combat. If a member does not manage to make their post before the 72 hours have elapsed, what ever was taking place will count as an auto hit, and the topic will continue as if the missed member did not take any action. The 72 hour rule can only take effect in Medium and High danger level zones, and is not allowed to be used in Low zones. If used in a Medium danger zone the auto hit can not be fatal, and will count as knocking the opponent out if it is. The 72 hour rule can be revoked if the member in question ask for a time extension or has a viable reason as to why they can not make the post.

    • Topic Limit: In order to keep time lines and the order of activity clean and simple, a topic limit is set in place. This is to ensure that people are not taking on to many topics and allowing some of them to die, but also helps staff keep a clear track of who is where and doing what. There is a different limit set in place for different types of topics.

-Social topics: A social topic is a topic in which all involved characters are simply talking or interacting with each other. These topics do no have combat in them and there is no potential for injury or character death. You can have an unlimited amount of social topics.

-NK combat topics: A NK combat topic is any topic that is focused on fighting without the intent to kill. This can be a spar, or any fight in a green or yellow zone. As long as there is no possibility of character death the topic counts as NK. You can have three of these active at once.

-DE combat topics: A DE combat topic is a topic that is focused on fighting with the possibility of death. This includes any combat topic in a red zone. If there is fighting and the topic could end with a character death, it counts as DE. You can have one DE combat topic active at a time.

-Flash Back Topics: A flash back topic is a topic that has already taken place before the current timeline, and exist in the past. This can be just about any topic, including social or combat, however can not be a DE combat topic, due to the events of the topic already occuring. The limits of a flashback follow the above limits, unlimited social and 3 NK combat topics.
