    "When we get Home;"
“I Know we Won’t Be Home at All!!”

There Spine of the World they called it was a jagged chain of nightmarish pieces of rock. It was also the best place to train one’s sensory abilities...or so one was taught. Many shinobi could not wish to leave this place if it meant they would be clawed to death by some beast. There were stories from local villages that such beasts were lurking about ready to strike at any time. So, as usual, a certain summoned creature that it was perfect to travel through this region. Her crimson gaze would look about with a furrowed brow. It was difficult to tell whether she was furious or it was her vigilant face.

“Need not be said that we should be careful.” The white furry colored rabbit would stop in place. Her ascended heel curving as she would let her eyes stray about. “Creatures have been spotted here. Ferocious, they disturb the balance. But they need not be our concern. Not at this moment.” She was a regal as ever when it came to tone and posture. Her furry hide wisping with some of the loose strands of hairs that were spilling from her skirt. Neck curling as she would catch a glimpse of the rabbit she was guiding beyond the range of cliffs and mounds.

    “Do you hear?”

Of course she was addressing Hikaru Usagi who was following close behind her. His blue spheres did not see a single thing before him, but her voice was clear as day. Ripping into the darkness, the sound of her voice would reach his rabbit-esque ears. Her hands going to her hips as she would turn and face the boy as he would approach. “I do!” he would echo, “I do, Banira-chan! I-I...just have a little trouble adjusting. My ears, they feel...strange.” There was a distinct ringing that he could not shake from them. His head would toss to and fro with a bit of frustration. It was so annoying, he could not quite focus as he heard the sound approach him.

“It is because of these?” Hikari hearing the voice loud and clear as the device slipped from his head. “You depend on these things? Your family? Why is that?” Banira had gotten so close that she was clenching her fingers along the faux rabbit ears. She handled them in a daintily manner while looking down on the young bunny. “Your ears are not used to being in high altitudes. Has your family not trained you well? Have you relied on...these things?”

“Of course!” Bellowing, Hikari would stamp his foot down upon the tundra. “They are a symbol of our clan! A-are...are they not of the Sage? Are they not something taught of Grandmother Bun?” The sound of Hikari’s voice would reach the rabbit who stood over him. Her hand flatly lifting the tool as she was tilting her head.

“Grandmother...Bun?” Hikari not knowing that the woman’s eyes were narrowing to blade-like slits, “Are you talking about...that sad excuse for a woman, Akemi Usagi?!” The rabbit girl would fall silent. For once, she was not giving a barrage of insults. Hikari, listening to her, could only interpret the spite in her voice as he was realizing that there was something off about the situation.

“You rely on senseless tools and false promise that the woman provides.” Her eyes were rolling while she tossed out her hand. The small device hitting the snow as Hikari would fumble to his knees. “True Usagi Clan arts means putting your actual body on the line. Beauty is one thing, but there is beauty in the struggle. There is beauty in your breakdowns. There is beauty even in defeat. You become stronger after you experience these. Something my pathetic sister never cared to learn of!”

    “Sister?”

Hikari would utter the word as he would recall more of the Usagi Clan stories and rumors. The rabbit summons were said to be the first family and kin. The ones that littered the area were especially frequent as they served the clan, but not like family. It always bothered Hikari why they always did such things, but yet, uttered not a single word as they would keep to themselves. Some even whispered among themselves, lips moving, but not even the ears of the clan could not hear. They kept uttering among themselves ever so lowly. It was then Hikari would turn his blind eyes to the rabbit.

“As in...you are as old as Grandmother Bun?” His head tilting, “But...how could that be?!”

Information gathering on the clan was less than eventful. With his eyes racing across the terrain, not a single slush of white registering, they would stop amidst his own feet. Pressing his hands to the ground, he would hold tightly to the small device in hand. His eyes would look on as if gazing straight through the woman before his eyes. His lips pursing bitterly as he could only think about the words spout by the rabbit. Even then, his expression did not falter. It would twist into one of utter defiance.

“Fine then.” Hikari would smile. “If you are just as old, then that means you are just as wise, yes? Therefore, teach me how you live as a Usagi, Banira-sama!”

He could not see anything. Not the snow, not the slush, or even her white fur. Had he been able to, he would have seen the twisted smile on the rabbit’s face as she became excited..
