    "When we get Home;"
“I Know we Won’t Be Home at All!!”

Endless travel was met with crunch after crunch of snow underneath iron soles. They were nothing compared to the white feet covered with fur and soaking up the slush. Two shadows were making their way through the thick mist of the cool tundra that covered the hills. There was nothing between the two that could be considered conversation for the past thirty minutes. The consistent crunch of the female before him was only proof that she did not desire such things. Her red eyes simply wanted to see the land she longed for while his....they wished to see anything. Something that told him he knew where he was being led.

“Banira-chan,” He would finally call, “May I-”

“You may not!” Her words cutting him off like a blade. The sound of the melodious crunch of snow would sound off beneath her feet. “You may guard me and escort me back to the wilds! Nothing more! Nothing less!” She was as curt as always! Hikari’s face would tighten as he would walk behind her. His eyes dropping as they would gaze at nothing as usual. The sound of the snow once again sounding off like a parade beneath his feet as he continued to journey upward. The slope of the land was unkind to his feet, but fortunately, the Usagi Clan had strong legs.

Hikari Usagi was used to traveling with the Usagi Clan and protecting them from danger. His grandmother had made it a task that he would safeguard each time they would journey through the Moon Village and to the Sun Village. This should have felt similar to that experience, but with each step, Hikari became frustrated. Nothing had changed! Even now, as he walked behind the “Sage’s Keeper,” he could not help but to believe that he was simply repeating time and being pulled along for the ride. He could make out her form with her swishing tail fur and pounding feet. His eyes narrowing as his right hand would reach to his chest feeling the burning sensation that coursed across his body. Once again, crossing his mind, that this creature was the one who attempted to take his life.

“Are you going to try to kill me.” The pitch of Banira’s voice was heightening with the sound of her cracking knuckles. Her right hand tightening into a fist. “Do you think you can do it? Without your friends?”

    Chirp...Chirp….CHIRP-CHIRP-CHIRP!~

That horrid sound screeching through the air as his chest would rage with uncertainty. After all, the last time he had heard that sound he felt the slicing burn across his chest. His right hand would reach to the slightly twisted flesh. The scar was still fresh in his mind even though it was nothing more than broken and gnarled skin. His blue eyes would flare as the misty orbs would reflect the flickering lightning. She was still and so he would stop in place. His rabbit-esque ears twitching as he would stamp his foot down in the thick layer of frost.

“Am I not your guardian?!” he would cry aloud. “Are we not Usagi? Banira-sama?!” The sound of a thousand birds was raging through the air. Electricity had begun to course across the female’s fur making it stand on edge and whip through the air like a hundred needles. Even though, she was remaining quite still as she would hear the young rabbit’s cry. Hikari’s nostrils was flaring and he was clearly in a huff.

“I am to escort you!” He would declare, “My family to the promised land! No matter what! We only have each other! I am injured and as are you! It is best that we not waste time fighting and trying to kill each other! N-not...not now at least.” In his heart of hearts, Hikari did have a score to settle with the peculiar hare. He only had a name and a job to escort her across this crazy land of shinobi. “If you are true to your word, I have nowhere to go! My family...the true Usagi...they surely wait in this land, yes? I will follow you and prove what it takes to be the rabbit that you need. Until then...our fight will have to wait.”

There was nothing short of contempt in the silence she would give back towards the young rabbit. The sound of the chirping was loud...until it was not. It would go softer, softer, and even more soft until silent. Her eyes would narrow and her expression would twist as she would stare with her crimson gaze towards the young boy. Nothing short of amusement in her silence. “So...you are not weak, after all?” Banira would turn her back to him, feet crunching in the snow while her furry hand would run over her right side. Her wound is still something severe. “Fortunate for me...that you may just be quite...entertaining. Come rabbit! I need...as you say...my family to guard me until we settle our score.”

She would ignore him completely...or at least acted like it. The moment the silence would return, the sound of the snow crunching beneath his feet, he would have a smile on his face. Unknowingly to him, she had a similar smile. There had nothing to be said with the same barbs when it came to their clan. After all, that was how their family communicated after all.

“Our destination is a long one.” she would continue, “I expect a proper hare that not only knows how to fight, but knows the art of the rabbit. Tell me bunny, do you think you can properly utilize the charm of your clan along with those ears?” She would tilt her head slightly, capturing him in her apathetic gaze. “If not, until I fully recover, then we may as well be dead. Do you understand?”

It was an ominous truth. One met with nothing more than a nod of his head.
