It had been a few days since Gen had moved out of his self built house and into his own families home with Sojiro, and Kannagi. He had moved in with Sojiro and Kannagi, deciding that the large property was like living a false life and so he didn't mind the company of the other two, needing them to not feel alone... They were definitely the best people that he could have chosen to live with. Of course, moving to the new neighborhood hadn't really taken his mind off of the problem that had been going on in the slums of the village.
If anything, being further away from the problem made Gen more tempted to try and figure out what was going on. The man had tried his best to ask for help from a few people that he thought could keep a certain level of secrecy to their actions. He had never asked for help so far, and so he started off with the sisters at the orphanage, where they had decided to go to a previous place that Gen had looked at and found something terrible. They had found an earthen tunnel that was covered up, leading into a room covered in filth. Whatever children had been kept there were long gone and they were too late to save them, the idea was something that angered him greatly but it didn't stop there.
A few weeks after that, Gen had been out looking for missions when the man had run into a bandit, who was trying to find a little boy and a missing girl, who had meant something to him. The man had just wanted to find his children, while still being worried for his own hide, but the man proved to be a solid lead. He had helped him discover a new lead about hearing a girl crying in a shed behind an old ramen shop at night, so they had gone there, only to find more filth and makeshift beds, Gen leaving the bandit Jerin there with the piece of information to not trust the village. No matter how he thought about it, he knew that the village had to be involved with this somehow, or at least was taking a far too relaxed position on it. His latest attempt lead to several warehouse searches that had lead to horrific scenes of brutality. The mental scarring of the scenes of bloodshed aiming to stick with him for the rest of his days. But it hadn't yielded any results that were helpful. He had hit a wall, as he walked around the slums and spotted another picture of a missing child. He hadn't seen this one before and the kid had been reported missing by his parents just the day before. What the hell was happening? Where were they going? Why was the top brass not looking into this harder?!?!?
There were too many questions and not enough answers, it was angering him greatly, but there wasn't anything that he could do to ease that feeling. Well, there was something that he could do actually. Genkumaru would spend a few more hours walking around the slums of the Sun Village, to try and see if he could pick up on any type of lead. Out of everything that the families had given him, or that he had found, none of the tips had led anywhere but dead ends. Were the children dead? If they were, what the hell was killing them? It could be a person but after his experiences in the tomb, it was honestly hard for him to dismiss the idea that it could just be something else... Something much darker than a person. He shook his head and dismissed that thought, the idea that some type of ghost or even demon could be doing this was insane. Clearly it was people, demons and ghosts wouldn't need to keep the children hidden somewhere else. Right?
Gen shook his head and let out a soft breath, deciding to head home for the day. These thoughts were starting to get to him and he needed to sleep.
