It is said these crystals can be found out in The Bloodstained Mire, and the rumor is they are a byproduct of the blood soaked soil.

It wasn't really hard to hear the rumors about the infamous blood crystals that merchants were starting to peddle, though Sojiro Sakura had decided to ignore them over the last couple of weeks. He wasn't really interested in ruining someone's profit, whether the crystals were actually legit or not, everyone needed to eat. But, when the village had finally caught wind of this scandalous series of events, they were finally willing to send some people out to investigate. Sojiro was not the first person to be sent out here to investigate the crystals, he knew for a fact two of his other comrades had been out here before; Kannagi and Genkumaru. Sojiro had actually been assigned a mission with the two of them right after they had their expedition to this area and... Well, from the way they showed up to the mission, it could've gone better. They had mentioned something about a magical wall, a mudslide or something... It was hard to remember the details since Sojiro had been more convinced with the fact they were injured and then taking care of said injuries.
As he moved through the mire, he would let his brows furrow a bit. There was no denying the strong smell of iron that was in the area. Sojiro didn't know if history supported the old myths about war having been there but ever since he stepped foot in the area, Sojiro could actually believe it. It wasn't as though the overwhelming smell of fresh blood assaulted his nose, no... It was like the natural scent of the area, reeking faintly of iron that has long since seeped into the ground and made itself at home. Walking through the downtrodden paths wasn't too hard at all, though everyone once in awhile, Sojiro's foot would kick up some dirt and the smell of iron would increase a bit. Sojiro had a feeling in his gut that if he were to stop and start digging in the earth here, the smell of iron would only increase before eventually turning into the smell of old, decayed blood. Walking around an area may cause most people to be on edge but Sojiro seemed unphased, sliding through the area with ease but seeing no crystals...
And then he saw, what seemed to be, the remains of a giant mudslide. The man would approach it and look around, furrowing his brows and beginning to move around in the dirt. The usual smell of iron was here and fresh, compared to the rest of the area, causing him to grunt. It didn't take more than a few minutes of examining the mudslide before his nose picked up on familiar scents, although they were so faint it was almost like he was imagining it; Kannagi and Genkumaru. He would stand up and look at the damage done to the earth, tilting his head and officially being curious on how the hell they got into a situation like this. Sojiro sighed and would keep moving, the mudslide being mostly dried out and had broken pieces of the ground not far away. Sojiro would move over to the crack and his eyes would catch the sight of something shimmering beneath. He would grunt a bit, crawling down onto his knees and reaching down into the crack.
After a few moments of struggling, Sojiro would pull out a couple of crystals that were the sizes of marbles. He looked them over before grunting, sliding the contents into his shinobi pouch and preparing to head back to the village. The man would give the gems to his Kage/Village once he had returned home.
