Ryojin's mission was simple. Keep the raggedy fishing boat up. What his father had neglected to tell him was whether or not he was going to run into direct confrontation and who it would be with. He disliked not having any information on the enemy at hand, but he would just have to deal with it. Don't let the boat flip. Don't let the boat flip. Don't let the boat flip. Easy enough. He took in another breath. Truth be told, he wasn't one for a mobile defense type mission on his own. He would have to be crafty.

They were about thirty meters out from the shore. Step one. Create cover. He created the necessary hand seals and within a moment, snow began to fall. This wasn't a blizzard, but it didn't have to be. Just enough so that it would be a bit more difficult to see. There was a lone fisher on the boat who looked up when it started to snow for a moment, but then just returned to his business. He had clearly been around shinobi before.

The downside to having begun this snow was that indeed, it would be a bit harder for the enemy to see them on the water, it would in turn be harder for him to see any threats incoming from the shore. He was well aware of this. He had another solution, but he would await the right moment. His flak jacket was on in case things got a bit rough. He had a bit of wire on his person and some smoke bombs but, what he was lacking were ranged weaponry and this boat was pretty sinkable.

His black hair was tied back for this mission into a lone pony tail. He was about as pale as the snow. His eyes were a piercing blue. He was short, but his chin was held up well and his shoulders back as per usually. He simply stood facing the shore waiting.

The mission was simple. To sink a ship. Well sink was relative. What was important, were the supplies or whatever was on the ship. The details of the mission had been sparse, but what was clear... Was that there would likely be an attempt from someone with skill, to prevent Yami from accomplishing his mission. "This mission is more complicated than it seems." he said to himself out loud as he walked from the land, towards the shore. The designation was up ahead. The ship was said to be at the shore around this time. Yami had wanted to catch the occupants of the ship by surprise, so he had showed up quite a bit earlier than necessary. Early enough to peer from a safe and inconspicuous distance as an individual stood facing towards the shore and began to make a snow flurry. A small weak flurry, but that wasn't the point. This was a shinobi and be had intentionally created a canopy of concealment.

The canopy wasn't perfect, nor was it very cold... but it served its purpose well enough. A shinobi with long range attacks wouldn't be able to effectively fire at the ship without notifying the shinobi and the sailors. In which case, they could said out a distance to safety and make things that much more difficult for the attackers. This mission would require a close range subtle maneuver. With that distance, it would take Yami several seconds to reach the ship. That would give the defending shinobi plenty of time to think of countermeasures. Yami had a few ideas himself, but they all required him to be much closer to the fishing boat.

While still on the shore and now concealed due to the shinobi's snow flurry, Yami would lower himself to the ground and bite his thumb to draw some blood. He touched the ground and a small puff of smoke enveloped his hand to reveal three red and black serpents. These serpents would slither up his arm and hide themselves beneath his cloak. They were to be used at a later time when the moment was right. With his preparations completed, he would step over the surface of the shore's water and began to walk on the surface towards the ship. It would take him several seconds to reach the fishing boat. The shinobi protecting it would likely see him from a distance away and prepare counter-measures. Yami just hoped that this shinobi's snow jutsu was limited to a minor inconvenience. Walking over the surface of water against an ice user could be quite a predicament. Still, Yami would try to circumvent the straight view of the fishing boat. he would circule to the right side of the boat, the Ryojin's left side, before he would become visible through the snow.

The snow had now begun to set. The ambient temperature was to the point where it was actually beginning to feel frigid. Ryojin continued to watch the water keeping an eye out for shifts in flow such as ripples or anything. The fisherman continued to just go about his merry making. Eerie stillness was setting in and this made Ryojin a bit unsettled. He could only wait in suspense. They were floating steady in one place. Stationary was easier. He would most attentively scan the side of the boat facing the shore.

It was quiet and it made it a bit easier for him to listen for the noises of water being kicked up as a result from running upon it. This weather didn't bother him in the slightest. He wondered if the person set up to face against him was as used to the cold.

He was careful not to make any real exaggerated movements on the small boat, but he would occasionally turn to watch the water on the opposite side of the boat. Still not yet seeing ripples, he waited.

A problem occurred to Yami before too long. His summons were snakes and small ones at that. As he had gotten closer and closer to the fishing boat's location, the temperature had become more like a freezer. The occurrence happened in the form of his snakes trying to nuzzle to him closer- to stay warm. Oh right... cold weather.. he thought to himself at the epiphany. Cold weather made snakes sluggish and hibernate. If it got too much colder, Yami would have little more than flesh ropes under his clothes. A change of tactics was necessary. He reached into his medical pouch as he ran across the surface of the water and attached something to one of his snakes. He would find a use for them regardless of the circumstances.

The couple of seconds of running carefully seemed to be taking forever. He had circled to the side of the boat to avoid being detected right away, but he was beginning to think that he wouldn't make it much farther before being spotted. As it stood, only the silhouette of the boat stood before him. Getting any closer and he could begin to make out the shapes of humans on the boat. Just in case, he pulled out his sword and readied himself for a counter attack.

It may have took a few more moments, a bit more surveying, but Ryojin swore he could make out the vague outline of a person. Water walking. It was a thing shinobi could easily do. Including himself. Duh. With this, he carefully stepped from the boat onto the surface of the water as not to simply tip it over on accident. "Old man. This is the part I told you about." He began his shift toward his presumed to be opponent. He took his time. The remaining gap still was roughly 20 meters. He walked slowly, making it a point to only close 3 meters worth of distance.

His hand signs began, but he took his time. He would drag out the true start of his jutsu until his opponent closed in another 5 meters. Behind him, the man had shifted slightly. The fisherman behind him had formed a hand seal of his own and sat in wait. The man's job was to be a witness, but Ryojin's father had already made it a point that a normal fisherman wouldn't be a good idea given Ryojin's archetype.

"You could destroy the boat, or we could make this fun. That's up to you." He shouted with a bit of a smirk. With this he waited for an answer or actions.

Yami figured the shinobi would stay near the boat and repel his attacks while the fishermen paddled away. This wouldn't be the case, as Yami's opponent seemed quite confident. Enough so to step out of the boat and challenge Yami directly to confrontation. Midsection from the boat by appealing to one's pride. It was smart. Most would prefer to fight out in the open, where they could see and react to everything that happened with limited amounts of surprises. The sort of battle that the two of them were in right now, was more of a game of cat and mouse- yet both of them were the cat and the mouse. In other words, dog eat dog. Only, the victor was whomever bit the other first.

Yami's ally had taken the first move, exposing himself more and giving away his specific location in the fog by speaking. Though Yami had spotted his shadow in the fog, he had kept moving to the side. This opponent had stepped forward and called out to him, giving Yami more opportunity to close the distance with safety and to the man's right side. The question was... to meet this shinobi's expectations? Or should he ignore them? Instead of coming closer, he would stop on the water's surface, just within visible range of his opponent- now only fifteen meters apart. "Fun sounds nice. What do you have in mind?" Yami would say, more curious than actually intending to destroy the boat. Logic only went so far with Yami. He was quite literally "mad". The prospect of having some fun, changed Yami's mind from a sudden aggressive assault. If things proved to be less than fun, he could always destroy the boat. He would wait cautiously but expectantly for a reply fro the sudden and unsuspected proposal.

It was at this point, they would come into view of one another as Ryojin stepped forward moving a full five meters toward his opposition. This brought him into sight, a total of seven meters apart. "Let's play a game. This is time for you to become the mouse."  The hand signs had finished and the blue mist erupted from his form. It spread out quick and he began his run toward his opponent. Ten meters out from his body would be the total spread on this turn.

Unlike the light snow, this mist was brutally cold. It was clear that this mist was quite a bit more dangerous that the light snow on contact. This was his play. If this jutsu ran it's course and wasn't fruitful, truth be told at this point, he couldn't do a whole lot. Hand to hand was definitely not his forte and in addition to that, this man was armed. This had turned out to be way more of a chore than he had hoped.

Yami's suspicions were right. This shinobi was a user of the ice release. One of the worst match ups for Yami's particular skill sets. Regardless of the sudden turn of difficult events, this was indeed more "fun". On that account, this shinobi opponent made true on his promise. For that, Yami was genuinely pleased. Now the question remained on what to do. Should he destroy the boat? Should he run away? Or should he strip down naked and rush his opponent, snaking around them for warmth instead of freezing?

While the latter idea sounded quite fun and could instigate a hilarious reaction from his opponent, it was the least effective for this situation. An idea occurred to him- it was a long shot, but well worth trying. His foe would not likely anticipate such a movement after all.

As the cold winds and flurry emitted from his opponent, Yami would do what he did best- snake around difficult situations. His ankles would suddenly break the surface of the water he was standing on and he would fall backwards, slipping beneath the water's surface as one of his snakes would leap out of his cloak towards Ryojin's location. It wouldn't pose much of a thread due tot he distance and cold temperature, but Ryojin wouldn't have likely expected it- more so that as the snake posed a threat between the two shinobi and quickly slithered its way towards the ice shinobi, the surface of the water had already been frozen- giving the snake a solid surface to slither up towards Ryojin's feet. This hid a particular secret about the snake, as an explosive note had been attached to its belly.

Now beneath the surface of the water, Yami would reapply chakra to his feet and begin running upside down, using the frozen underneath surface of the water as a floor to propel himself passed Ryojin and towards the fishing boat. Behind and near Ryojin's location, the snake would attempt to get as close to Ryojin as possible, then detonate the exploding note. This served as a dual purpose. One, to damage or disable his opponent and cancel the freezing jutsu. Second, to slow down his opponent and allow Yami to get close enough to the boat and destroy it before Ryojin could catch up to him. The logic was simple. Though he is an ice shinobi and is willing to freeze the whole area, he wouldn't likely freeze the fisherman and his boat. So if I get close enough, I'll have the upper hand and limit the shinobi's offensive abilities.

The surface of the water hadn't yet become frozen. The water however had severely dropped in temperature by now. The man must assume that he could select freely what was frozen. This almost made Ryojin chuckle. His ice style was fickle. It didn't like a single thing. His side, the enemy, it didn't matter. All that was graced by his mist would become encased. He had options. He could let the man pass him, in which case, by the time he reached his destination, the top of the water and boat would be completely cased in ice. That was scenario number one. That was the easy way out.

Scenario number two was what Ryojin went with. He allowed himself to break below the surface as well. He was head above water. It was true, he hadn't expected a long snake to come rushing at him, but it was far enough away that he could simply move back five meters as his opponent pressed forward. He made sure to keep himself between his opponent and the boat. Beneath the surface of the water, the mist continued to spread from his body as well.

This would be the second turn Yami maintained contact with the jutsu. His movement speed at this point would noticeably lower by 2mpp. Moving back five meters, as his opponent pushed forward, the distance between them would remain seven meters. The distance between the boat and Ryojin three meters. The distance between ryojin and the snake nine meters. The key to victory was keeping Yami in the mist for just a little longer.

This man was bold. He was assuming that Ryojin could control this mist, but this one was indiscriminate. In mere moments, not only the man, but the side of the boat they were in front of would also freeze solid. Was this checkmate, or had he missed something? Either way, this had been much more fun than what he thought.

Of course he would move too. Though he didn't seem to predict Yami's movements, he was quick to react. 10 meters was all that remained between Yami and the boat, though he could feel himself being slowed by the ice' effect. This shinobi intends to immobilize me by freezing me. Clever and also efficient.. This truly was the worst kind of match up for Yami. If it had been on land, he would stand a better chance. But out in the water, the ice user had a strong advantage. This sort of attack was bewildering however slightly. It could easily induce a panic in someone who was wasn't prepared. It was more of an inconvenience to Yami, as he wouldn't get very much for this mission if he failed. There was a couple ideas he could try, but they would have to be quickly enacted. Though no matter how he thought about it, he couldn't think of a way to escape the range of this freezing technique in time. The only positive side of this mission, was that both of the shinobi were from the Moon. If Yami became a floating pop-sickle, chances are that the ise user would pull him to shore to thaw.

One of his plans was a bust. The explosive tag had been rendered ineffective due to the wetness. Even though it had slithered within 3 meters of its target, it hadn't detonated. That would have given Yami an easy victory, but life was never that easy. The only other option that Yami had, was more gruesome and less than honorable. But this was a shinobi battle.

Not able to afford to waste any time, Yami did what he could do best. Run away. As the ice began to coat his body and slow him down: the shinobi in the water with him, would suddenly find him gone- vanished in an instant. Yami would reappear 5 meters away, much closer to the boat. Before the ice user could react, Yami would disappear again- this time leaving behind a wooden box. It would float to the surface of the water, five meters away from where Yami now stood in the boat. He had used the body flicker technique to close the necessary gap of range to allow himself to then use substitution- which brought him out of his foe's attack- at least temporarily. Now behind his opponent's location, Yami was better suited to counter. He had the sense that his next plan would prove more difficult however, if his foe's ice technique froze the boat too. They wouldn't be that reckless, would they? That kind of thing was common for Yami.. but was his foe a normal type of person?

The ice had spread it's entirety, thirty meters out in each direction from Ryojin. This man had definitely been capable. He would keep this man in mind for the future if he needed a rival. An opponent worthy of praise for sure. He used his own body flicker to land back up on the boat. Easily enough. The fisherman, after having formed his hand seal, was fine. A fire type ninjutsu user. The boat, the surface of the water, and now Yami. The ice encased all of it. His father had no doubt selected the fisherman himself.

With this, Ryojin would place both his hands into his pockets. His clothes were sopping wet. Keeping this cold would be a mistake later. The fisherman at this point stood up. Ryojin waited. Did this man possibly have a jutsu or technique to break through the ice? A slight smirk had formed on his face by now.

"You drew the short straw with me as your opponent snake man. We should really do this again some time. Your snakes are super cool though. Next time how about you take homefield advantage? I'm curious to see what you could do on land."
