Time for Practice

Post by Unagi on Thu Dec 15, 2011 3:13 pm

Karasu, the Aka no Tana’s puppet master, entered the training room. He had just recently started training again. At the age of 37 he had suspected his range of techniques and puppets to be large enough to never have to expand it again, but with the recent three deaths in the organization, it was better to be safe. There were powerful enemies out there, and the deaths of Cut, Ace and Jojo had been a good reminder of that. Therefore three new techniques would be trained. Two with normal hand seals and one activated through his puppets.

First the normal one; Kage Bunshin no Jutsu. A technique mastered by many before him, but definitely a useful one. It required a single seal, yet it could create multiple clones as powerful as their own wielder. Clones meant more fingers to use puppets with. The bird-themed puppet master liked the idea of that. So without further ado he put his hands together in a blur of seals. A poof of smoke and there lied what should have been a shadow clone. It lacked color and seemed to lack bone structure of any kind. It lied on the ground as if it was some kind of pudding, but Karasu wasn’t angry. He was a patient man, and quite satisfied that he had gotten this far on the first attempt. No one could master a technique on the very first try, not even the most genuine of geniuses or the most talented on prodigies. No, mastery always took effort.

And effort he gave. Slowly his results got better. After a few times his clones got color. Then, they were able to walk. Then, they were able to independently cast techniques. But how would they do with puppets? Karasu was going to find out. With his technique completed, first he created a shadow clone. Then, he took out ten random puppets. Which one of them didn’t matter, this was merely a test. After he had summoned them, the sound of clacking joints filling the silence of the training room, the shadow clone took the scroll.

In a few puffs of smoke, the rattling of ten puppets was joined by the rattling of ten more. And indeed, more puppets filled the room, casting shadows on the ground of the room that was lit by candles on the wall. That was all the proof he needed that his technique was complete. With this, overwhelming the opponent would be even more easy. Satisfied, the clone dismissed his puppets once again, and Karasu in turn dismissed the clone and his own puppets. All except one. He had another technique to master, and it would require the use of one of his newest puppets; Koucho.

Name: Kage Bunshin no Jutsu (Shadow Clone Technique)
Rank: B
Type: Ninjutsu
Element: None
Range: N/A
Description: Similar to the Clone Technique, this jutsu creates clones of the user. Unlike the Clone Technique, these clones are actual copies, not illusions. The user's chakra is evenly distributed among every clone, giving each clone an equal fraction of the user's overall power. The clones are capable of performing jutsu on their own and can even bleed, but will usually disperse after one or two solid blows. They can also disperse on their own. The clones will be created in roughly the same condition as the original.

Kouchou, one of his newest creations. A puppet in the shape of a rather short, broad shouldered man with short legs and a large head, with brown, spiky hair on the top. When giving his puppet’s shape, he never really based them off someone. He just did whatever came to his mind. He liked giving every puppet its own face, its own body. Short ones, tall ones, fair ones, ugly ones. There were many different people, thus there were many different shapes a puppet could take.

This particular puppet had something strange going on about it. It had a normal human build, but where its chest and stomach was supposed to be, the wood that served as the material for most puppets gave way for a slate of dark metal. Chakra conductive metal. Metal that allowed him to cast lightning techniques through the puppet. In combat, lightning was a valuable tool against many opponents such as earth users, but Karasu usually needed all his fingers to control his puppets. This technique would shoot forth a cone of destructive lightning towards the target through his puppet´s stomach so Karasu himself didn’t need to be bothered to perform hand seals. It would give him quite the advantage in certain situations.

With all the other puppets but this one gone, Karasu started training his second technique. The first thing to do was send lightning chakra through the miniature chakra string he had created. A challenging task by itself already. Creating a tiny string of chakra already took its fair amount of concentration, and adding lightning chakra to the mix was straining. It took the Puppet Sage a good few tries to get it right, and it would´ve taken him longer without his great chakra control. Yet after a few minutes or so, he finally noticed how the chakra-conductive metal on his puppet’s stomach began to shine and sparkle just a bit. The chakra had gathered inside Kouchou, and now all he had to do was release it.

He did just that, and the shine increased before waves of electricity were expelled from the stomach, increasing in range and width in a cone-like way, ripping several training dummies to shreds. The stream vanished, and so had the glow. Karasu’s technique was a success. But there was more to it. He had designed the technique so he could increase or decrease the size of the cone and its power, so he wouldn’t waste unnecessary chakra. Karasu’s chakra was already below average, and although his great chakra control compensated for this since it reduced the chakra cost of every technique, being careful was never a bad thing. Better safe than sorry, and he would definitely be sorry if he would one day find himself low on chakra reserves in the middle of a battle.

The technique Karasu had just used was of C-rank power. Now he would turn the rank up and give it more chakra. And as he did, the glow on the metal was slightly more intense than with the C-rank version, although it wasn’t enough to stand out for an opponent in the thick of battle. Perfect. The lightning that shot from the puppet’s chest was indeed larger and more intense than the last time. It casted a bluish light across the training room as it ripped through more training mannequins, reaching lines of dummies that were previously out of reach. Splendid.

Next the A-rank version, just to see its power. This time the glow was clearly more intense than the C-rank’s glow, and the waves of lightning actually reached to the back of the room, where the last line of puppets was ripped to shreds. Karasu had seen enough. He was satisfied. The puppet was sealed back into the Puppet Sage’s large scroll, and the scroll was returned to the holder on his back. He just had one more technique to learn.

Words: 650 (not sure about the requirement since the ranks varied, but I been a good boy and just did the requirements of the jutsu’s maximum rank)
Jutsu learned:
Spoiler:

Name: Raiton: Kouchou no Songu (Lightning Release: Song of the Nightingale)
Rank: C-A
Type: Ninjutsu
Element: Raiton – Lightning Release
Range: Up to ten meters
Description: Karasu channels lightning chakra through the chakra threads towards his Kouchou puppet. The chakra will gather in the chakra-conductive metal and be unleashed. A wave of lightning will be released from the metal in a cone, its size, power and reach increasing as Karasu channels more chakra. At C-rank, the lightning will reach up to five meters. At B-rank, this is ten and at A-rank this is fifteen.

Ah, the puppet master’s last technique. He was almost done now. This one again did not require any puppets, only hand seals. Experienced as Karasu was, he had fought many opponents. Among them had been a large amount of Earth Release users, and those had the nasty habit of using their partial mastery of earth to travel underground and hide in the soil. A nasty thing for Karasu. His Oumu puppet could travel underground, sure. But he needed something more reliable than poking around with a puppet in a place he couldn’t see.

This technique would send a wave of lightning through the earth, electrocuting anyone in direct contact with the effected earth. This included targets standing on the ground AND targets underground. Without further ado, Karasu performed the required hand seals. The crackling of lightning echoed through the training room as it visibly sparked around the Aka no Tana member’s left hand. Almost instantly, he placed his palm flat on the ground, unleashing the chakra and sending it through the earth. He looked over to the remaining training dummies nearby, and could still see the sparks of electricity and the blackened burns on them, meaning his technique had worked.

Though of course a downside with this technique was that there was no way of checking if it had worked underground as well. So instead of lingering in the training room, he walked outside. He chose a sandy perch of land and began digging a hole about one meter deep. In the pit he threw a piece of paper. After that, he closed the pit again. Performing the same technique, he smashed the ground with his open palm, sending another wave of lightning that whipped up some surrounding sand. Karasu covered his mouth with his hand so the stirred up sand wouldn’t enter his lungs, and waited patiently until the dust had settled.

Remembering where he had buried the paper, he started digging again. After a while the paper came within sight again. Or should I say, what was left of it? The paper was blackened and shriveled, a clear sign of being burned by something. Had this been an enemy shinobi using Earth Release, he would either be dead or severely wounded now. It was proof. He was done.

Three techniques had been added to his arsenal, and it gave him multiple new strategies as well as multiple new ways to make sure he wouldn’t end up dead like a few members before him. Their deaths had been a good waking call for the Aka no Tana, reminding them that they were all but invincible. It was good. Caution was a good thing. A life saving thing. Nothing good ever came from recklessly rushing into the fray with no idea what could lie ahead.

As Karasu walked into the base once again, plans were already being made in his head. Plans for the future.

Name: Raiton: Tsuchi Dageki (Lightning Release: Earth Shock)
Rank: B
Type: Ninjutsu
Element: Raiton – Lightning Release
Range: Up to ten meters
Description: The user performs the required hand seals and gathers a large amount of electricity in his/her hand. Then, he/she slams the ground with his palm channeling the electricity through the ground. As a result, a circular shockwave of electricity will be unleashed with a diameter of ten meters, with the user standing at the center. Anyone who is in direct contact with the affected ground will be electrocuted. This also counts for targets hiding underground using Earth Release. The lightning can reach up to four meters deep. Consists of only one wave and cannot be sustained.

Re: Time for Practice

Post by Unagi on Sat Dec 17, 2011 3:03 pm

Karasu’s footsteps echoed through the large chamber. He was back again. It was only a few days ago since he had last entered the training room to train three new techniques. Now, he was back again. For one more technique far more powerful and deadly than those he learned earlier. For years he had been busy creating them, and now it was time to learn to control them, a part that wouldn’t take years but was nonetheless the most essential.

Over the years he had created an assorted army of one hundred puppets. A tedious job it had been for sure especially considering he had chosen to create a more organized army instead of a chaotic, disorganized rabble with randomly assorted, poisoned weapons. He had created four types of puppets, 25 of them each. Every puppet of one type had to look exactly the same, which had proven to be a tedious task when decorating them. Every puppet’s traps had to function correctly, so he had to give every freakin’ puppet a few testing rounds, letting them attack dummies to see if all their functions worked. Good fucking god that was over. He had tested every single one of them, and he knew each of them worked precisely as they should.

Now it was time to try and control them all at once.

That had also required some preparations in the form of a special seal located on his chest, right above his chakra pool. He had to have a shadow clone tattoo it on his body the other day. It was a special seal designed to channel chakra directly from his pool to itself, and form a hundred threads from them since he had no way of controlling so many puppets with just his hands. The threads would connect to the puppets and allow the puppet master to control them with nothing but his will. On paper this scenario would allow him to control ten normal puppets with his hands as well, or use it to perform jutsu, but creating and maintaining one hundred chakra threads occupied a lot of the blonde Aka no Tana member’s concentration. It was only to be seen if he could ever pull something like that off.

He wasn’t wearing his Aka no Tana robe today. In fact he was completely bare-chested. The seal on his chest began to glow the bluish glow of chakra, and Karasu fetched his scroll. In a seconds noticie the silence in the training room took place for the clacking of thousands of joints as the puppets filled the room, strings emerging from the seal and connecting to them. It was a magnificent sight to behold. 100 puppets floating in the air, awaiting their masters command. And command them he would. He decided that the best way of practicing control over them was by individually commanding each group of 25 puppets to attack.

First up was the most standard type of puppet; the soldier. Armed with curved, poisoned swords and shields that could block up to D-rank attacks, they looked like soldiers indeed. Karasu focused his will through the threads connecting to them, and instantly 25 puppets in black cloaks came down upon a group of training dummies, slicing at their straw-filled bodies. Perfect. Next up where the rippers, puppets with poisoned kunai as claws. They too descended upon their targets. But unlike the soldiers they could attack from up close AND from afar by launching their kunai. After scratching away at the dummies, Karasu had them move back to their positions and aim their hands at the dummies. The many kunai shot forward and completely pierced the dummies, having killed each and every one of them had they been people. The two most simple puppets were completed. But the remaining two worked differently.

The Flamethrowers, the next puppets to be tested, were different in that they shot fire and were able to boost the power of each other’s flames. This came at a price; the puppets could only fire one stream each. First, he tested the flamethrower itself by using only one puppet. Reacting to the will of the man who was both is master and its creator, one flamethrower hovered down to one of the mannequins and, after aiming its arm at the doll, unleashes a stream of roaring flame upon it, setting it aflame. Good, but now it was getting trickier. To achieve higher ranks of power, he had to add in more puppets. Deciding to try the S-rank variant, Karasu commanded twenty flamethrowers to join in a pyramid formation in front of the puppets, and watched with admitted glee as they focused their streams to a gathering point in front of them, from where they traveled forward as one intense stream, wide and powerful like a massive river of fire. They scorched every doll in front of them even to the last lines, leaving nothing but a few scorched standards.

Next were the Guardians. They had the ability to conjure up chakra shields to defend their master from attacks, but Karasu had no way of testing their power right now, so he kept it at simply using the shields. First one. It stretched its arm in front of itself and created a thin, blue, disk-like shield of pure chakra that covered its entire body. The S-ranked version with twenty of them piling up on each other consisted of the edges of the shield connecting and forming one large shield enough to cover quite a big area and block a very big attack.

Karasu had seen enough. He stored his puppets back in his scroll and left the room again without a word or an expression. But from the inside, he was satisfied and most curious to test his new technique against a living, worthy opponent.

Name: Hyakki no Sōen (Performance of a Hundred Puppets
Rank: S
Range: Any Type: Ninjutsu
Element: N/A
Handsigns: Nay
Description: The technique Karasu used to control his flock of 100. Using his skill in fuuinjutsu, he has carved a tattoo on his chest, right where his chakra pool is. When the puppets are summoned, chakra will leak directly to the tattoo and form 100 strings that connect to the puppets. Because the user does not use his hands, the puppets are linked directly to his will. However, due to the chakra control required to keep control of 100 puppets, no other techniques can be used nor can the user control any more puppets.
